I do agree that these kids morals have gone out the window. But it needs to be said that most of these administrators are so blatantly disrespectful to all the students that even the kids being brought up in good homes come home feeling defeated. There is a clear lack of common sense in school city. If the adults who are role models act ridiculously teachers included...whatchance do these kids have? This is a district that deliberately underachieves to ensure they receive the maximum amount of government funding. This is why they keep an honors teacher who never teaches and an algebra teacher as dumb as a box of rocks. I've met Watkins...not the brightest bulb in the box either. Of course I went to LC...I have standards!

One more thing. My student was instructed by a guidance counselor told my student to 'watch what you tell your mom.' Seriously? When did we start discouraging students from confiding in their parents? Then they stand around wondering why this stuff happens. DUH

And fyi. Two sets of student couples were caught in the halls having sex in the past month. The varsity baseball team just had their lockers ransacked and all their phones money I pods and more stolen this week from a locked locker room. There absolutely no supervision at Morton HS. Even after all the school shootings, Morton has people coming and going without any accountability.

Agreed. Watkins is a liar. Everyone knows the teachers come first and are protected at all costs in school city of hammond. This example was just too big to be hidden. There are so many disgusting lazy selfish teachers out here. It is unfortunate for the teachers who are giving their all that their work place is litter with these dead beats!

Wow I onder how may of you have been around a 13 year old latey. !3 is a highly impressionable age, and especially for girls with low self esteem. I would even bet their has been other molestations or degragation earlier in her life. I am glad that this case has been brought to light, to make an example to all the minimizers out there! 13 is still a child, maybe you should all stop watching the gross media depicting little girls as sexy. It so nice that a story like this can bring out all the would be child molesters to agree with these boys.

This was a case of no one doing their job from square one! EVERYONE failed these poor children. Our laws need to change. The school officials who never reported his indecent behavior to police need to be prosecuted! I am so sick of these stories where people of authority look the other way and allow children to be victimized by these kind of crazies!
And I'm sorry....not want to cause further damage??? You know what's damaging....seeing someone who committed a crime against you that you now have to live with the rest of your life...go without any kind of punishment! Seriously, I can't think of a better way to convey the message that these poor kids don't matter !

No here in Hammond we built a million dollar charter school. My son sat for hours with NOTHING to do. He is an honors kid and they paired him with failing kids during group projects. Of course the failing kids did none of the work, so my son did it all getting them all an A. This was done repeatedly even after I met with administrators. Either my son was a tattle tale who would then get bullied or he did all teh work. Teachers had no way of knowing who did what because they never checked in. I finally put my son back in to a Hammond public school (thats how bad the charter was) and know many MANY parents through the years since it opened who did the same. It has not changed one bit. The sad thing is parents of the failing students think their kids are improving! Then when they get the Istep scores and ECA scores Dr Egan says there must be a mistake! Weve talked to him personally about what going on. He would shake his head everytime he seen me after that like I was crazy! Supposedly we are all clamoring to get back to HAST as he put it. Lazy lying bum!

The way it works is that the funds go toward things that a normal budget would. That way they can keep upping their own paychecks without making it look like that way. Ingenious. I wish funding were taken away. Then some of these jerks would have to figure out how to make the money actually work FOR them.....by educating their students, getting a higher rating and mnore families would move here or at least not flee!
