And speaking of that, does anyone else remember when Mr. Miller, trying to convince the council to buy his snake oil, stated he would "saturate" the city with his ambulances. This was where he spoke of "learning" the areas that have a higher number of calls. So now, instead, learning curve is an excuse for why they aren't performing as promised.
And I have to agree, it is strangely ironic that the representative speaking for Prompt and "how well" they think they have done is the same man that was so publicly suspended as a medic by the State of Indiana for, well, malpractice. Mr. Miller calling it a "protocol deviation" was nothing more than smoke and mirrors to make his company not look as bad.
I hope everyone that has had to wait during the "learning curve" shows up to voice their concerns to the Council.
1. I can guarantee that the paramedic of record DID NOT document that the IV was started and medications given by someone other than himself. That in itself is falsification of a legal document.
2. This paramedic has now opened every document he has ever written to the possiblity of falsification.
3. This paramedic has now opened himself up to lawsuits over the same as well as malpractice suits.
4. It has been known company wide that Joe Merry has been doing this kind of thing, unchecked, for a long time. It has even been mentioned several times previously on the unofficial company message board. NotSoPrompt.Aimoo.com
5. The company has had multiple EMT Supervisors carrying drug boxes and ALS supplies in their chase vehicles for years.
6. Not only have the calls of this paramedic become suspect, but any call Joe Merry has ever responded to is now suspect of falsification and malpractice.
7. As a former employee of this company I can say I am honestly not surprised by this happening. I am merely surprised it took this long for them to get caught.
And as far as the earlier comment someone had made about "splitting hairs", this is NOT splitting hairs. Let me put it to a possibly more easily understandable level for you. Joe Merry as an EMT performing paramedic level care would be about the same as a surgical technician performing brain surgery.
The sad thing here is this, either Joe Merry or the paramedic involved are going to become sacrificial lambs for the corporation of Prompt or, more likely, nothing but a very minor slap on the wrist will occur. You see, Mr. Miller, the owner of Prompt, is also the president of the state EMS commission. He actually gets ultimate say in what happens to the medics involved as for as their certifications go.
