Maybe Mayor Copeland you can give some tutoring lessons to Notre Dame graduate & attorney Thomas McDermott Jr. But then Jr has a background in finance.
Hammond is in the process of giving 3.5 million in "incentive" money to companies associated with Luke Oil. They propose commercial development near the Walmart that was built near the Hammond casino. Along with some restaurants, liquor stores, a cigarette outlet, dollar stores, and a bank are permitted.
Luke serves about a hundred service stations. The chief of the company was recently inducted into the NWI business hall of fame. The story in The Times mentioned that Luke Oil recently surpassed the billion dollar revenue mark.
Luke owns or controls every gas station near the casino. Also the liquor, fireworks and cigarette retail from the state line to the casino entrance and then some. Walmart was developed on their property.
When Walmart was built, the city through the Port Authority spent more than 2 million dollars in road improvements for that development. Now they don't like the road configuration, and Hammond is paying to remake the road plan and then some.
How is it that a rich developer like Luke, under whatever name they chose to operate, can't finance this themselves, instead asking taxpayers to inflate their profits?
Mayor?
A past director of code enforcement, said live, on air while at WJED, Jr used city agencies to go after his political enemies and the past director didn't want to be a part of it.
One well documented use of JR's abuse was Marsha H, who had Jr, Fowler and Hamm named in litigation, unfortunately she was mortally injured the very day she was due in Federal Court.
As to the Women's Golf Tournament, read the article: http://www.nwitimes.com/sports/golf/professional/article_71b05118-a19d-5d63-b36e-f4f4da1140b9.html. The representative said what she said.
A LPGA Women's Future Golf Representative stated, "Where (Lost Marsh) is located has less of that and because we're bringing 150 young women, we want them to be safe . . ."
This has nothing to do with hate, it has to do with a two bit politician, raping a vibrant community and separating it from its fiscal resources. It certainly appears McDermott's city hall has several different law enforcement agencies looking at how it spends your tax money.
All it is going to take is one or two inside sitting city council persons to be charged and Jr's house of cards is going to fall. Bet book on that!
"We always look for communities that can really get behind," Calderon said. "Where (Lost Marsh) is located has less of that and because we're bringing 150 young women, we want them to be safe . . ."
Regarding CB, an unaudited program, and one McDermott friend and family plan member is doing quite well at $90,000 a year and $30,000 in expenses & you're paying for it.
As to HAST, glad your kid is doing better. Wasn't it built on re mediated land? I certainly hope the site remediation worked.
Polish, you give that nationality a bad name. Research your facts better.
I just don't understand how McDermott as Hammond's Mayor is giving $400,000 to a Valpo contractor to build two $200,000 homes in Hammond?
I also just don't understand how McDermott spent $327,000 to remove a 100 year old concrete slab to a Valpo contractor when a viable bid came in at $127,000?
Unless it was a backroom deal to assure a Valpo legislator would push forward favorable COIT legislation.
Wanna bet a McDermott gets a job?
Is another McDermott getting a job again?
More wasted Purdue money: McDermott campaign headquarters at the Kaplan building on Calumet was recently purchased by Purdue for $1,000,000. Have you driven down Calumet Avenue in Hammond lately, it's littered with empty store fronts. The building isn't worth $1,000,000. The deal was done just before the current president was brought in. The building sure didn't seem like $1,000,000 of value, more like $550,000 if that.
