  1. If you're teaching, a dictionary would be a good friend to you. Please check your spelling of reinforced, as it is incorrect. And, enough of workshops! If education researchers would look back to the 4th, 5th, and 6th decades of the 20th century, they would see clearly that education pedagogy was successful; students were proficient at learning. Take this pedagogy, and implement it with today's teaching media, instead of wasting time with workshops that are not producing better teaching methods.

  2. Common Core State Standards is a common-sense approach to America’s public education. It leaves little room for excusing children from what they should be learning at each grade level. In today's world, "clear and consistent understanding" of expectation is more critical than ever. And, critical thinking is a skillset no student should be without upon entering the real world.
We all agree that public education has not met its public's expectations for the last 30 years. America's students can't compete globally in science and math. Heck, they can barely read, write, and speak in an intelligible manner. With CCSS, there are obvious notable advantages. The most notable advantage is that students, parents, and teachers will have clear and consistent knowledge and information about the expectations of public school education, because everybody will be on the same page. Uniformity will produce better test results and clearer statistical analyses. I also believe that undergraduate programs for teachers will be better constructed to produce better teachers. A student who relocates to a new district can be better evaluated and can make a smoother transition into his new school system. Students will have fairer meritorious opportunities in the college application process. And, teachers will be better served by uniformly fairer and more objective evaluations.
Indiana has been almost egregious about dumbing down education in this state for the last 30 years and has cited more excuses for why our children are not achieving academic excellence. Good parenting, good teaching, and good evaluating are revealed with a comprehensive system of expectations. If a child is not mentored with expectations in his home or his school, what has he learned? How will he function in his employment, if he doesn't understand or meet his employer's expectations? How will he lead, if he doesn't meet the expectations of his followers?
Just a mention . . . Anymore when I hear the word Republican, I equate it with a politician who thinks he is of high morality and seeks to better mankind by putting into law his "moral" code of behavior. The Indiana State House/Senate Republicans would be well advised to take a more critical look at what Hoosiers' expect from their students. Learning Creationism and reciting prayer in the public schools is NOT an expectation a child should have to meet to merit academic achievement and excellence

  3. Yeah, a majority bunch of middle-aged rotund unattractive men of ostensibly high morality. Yes, I'm describing the Republicans who need to get off the morality high horse and get down to reality. Hoosiers want economic and job stability so they can put food on their tables, clothes on their kids' backs, and prepare for retirement. Do they (the gray suits) really believe that establishing prayer in the schools, anti-abortion laws, and knocking the gays is the solution to economic stability?
The way to God is not through public school prayer. Our high school graduates can barely read and write, let alone verbally put a sentence together to have conversation. If they can't construct adult conversation, how are they going to converse with God? The State will have to purchase an iphone for God, so He can text back.
Here's a thought: let the gays get married and adopt children who are born out of wedlock. The abortion rate will decline, if unwed mothers know that there are good folks, straight or gay, out there who really want children. Even gay Hoosiers can rebuild the "nuclear" family - 2 married parents, children, the dog, etc. And, they can rediscover church, if they want to.
The family unit needs to be uplilfted with economic stability so it can survive in today's world. Get to work, boys!
