  1. Our education system poor performance is reflected by the ignorant comment in these posts. I suggest review the: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxT7QjlvDqM
on the legislative process. The sequestration is allowing D's and R's to blame each other while the citizens suffer. What Pete appears to be saying is if you want cuts lets tell the citizens know what they are cutting so the citizens can decide if they agree with their elected representatives. However, don't ask people to be honest or sincere, just yell and insult each other, blame the other guy because that is what made America great, I think not. Half of the posts recite lies, Obamaphones was started under Bush and is paid by the private cell phone operators, but hey, blame Obama? Mythical Unicorns that Members of Congress have special laws? The R's have not passed a bill for the senate to take up and based on the lovely "how a bill" schoolhouse rock explained it apparently it has to originate from the House and if anyone thinks the R's could pass a bill, they would, every day at 8:00 am followed by a press conference about how they passed a bill, they voted 30+ to repeal Obamacare, - IF they could pass something they would every day -

  2. yes.. the people did speak, and i respect that, i would point out the people elected the President and he wants minimum wage increased, so you must agree that we raise it. The people did speak and they want health care as a right. The people did speak and they want renewable energy. unfortunately, when the people speak for things you don't share the same opinion. Oh well, why point out duplicity in your remarks, better to simply state you already determined position and use elections matter, then when it doesnt work out in your favor fight the people that you supposbly respect so much.. ahh.. wish d's and r's would work together and not use every issue as a reason to fight. in this case, changing the constitution should be held for the most serious issues, allowing african americans to move to indiana, happened during the 1880's - or property tax caps most recently, not employer employee relationships, that seems a bit beneath constitution altering in my opinion, why not put in our constitution how much money someone can make? just another ridiculous not essential activity for elected officials to pursue to excite their base, hooray democracy, i wonder if the founding fathers of Indiana would be proud their document would be used for such activities.

  3. so.. education needs to be improved in lake county and these threads are exhibit A. I fear that many of the posters may actually be parents and have an impact on the next generation. Downright frightful to think how the dinner conversations must go and the pure ignorance being shared and growing. FACTs are FACTs, the Indiana General Assembly controlled by republicans and the repbublican former Governor clearly stated that they will take our local state tax dollars and not return any of them to Lake County unless Lake County implements a County Option Income Tax. That is a fact, so all the industry, all the business, all the people of Lake County will pay their taxes and receive no benefit because no County Option Income Tax. So in other words the Democrats have resisted implemented, matter of FACT the only county without one, and now are being punished. But the bible has a paroble about arguing with fools so I will not engage anyone, but FACTS always trip up critics. I don't like when Democrats do it, I don't like when Republicans do it, try a little honesty with your morning coffee - the real question, is it okay for you to subsidize the rest of the state or to ask for the repeal of the legislation from the republican controlled legislature and governor office -- that is the only real two questions - but honesty is a hard pill for many to swallow, easier to live in make believe land.

  4. The problem with excise cops, no drugs, no gang activity, the amount is not large depending on how many people participating - so push out a local guy who donates to children little leagues, soccer clubs, etc and have someone come in that doesnt care about the community take over the bar and see what we get? It is the excise job, but I am a big fan of priorities, so go after the easy mark, super bowl squares, pat yourself on your back, and then do nothing the rest of the year to stop gang, drugs, prostitution, the real scourges on our society, honestly, no one makes you play a square, no victims, no random shootings over football squares -- i repeat it is wrong of course, but good for you excise officer, you got the jaywalkers, but the drug user, prostitute, john visitng the prostitute, gang banger bars are free to do as they please, they should be first priority -- then go after the football squares and tip boards all you want. NO ONE IS SAFER because of your tax payer funded "cop" job, abolish the exise if this is what they want to waste my taxpayer money on, seriously or list your priorities online and let the public rate you on your success and fire you if you bring in jaywalkers when real crime is up. I assume Excise Cop got their cut from whoever sent them there, that is a story that should be investigated, the competetion turned them in - lets see what the $30,000 officer is driving where they live and how they live, the whole story just reeks of kickback and Spike did not pay his share -

  5. i applaud Mayor Copeland for even tackling the job of Mayor. The comments are so selfish and an indication why the city has such a hole to dig out of. With property tax caps that benefited industry, with a frozen levy compliments of Republican governor, and a dwindling population base, it is like inheritening an apartment building with tenants that don't want to pay, but want a security guard, survellience cameras, good lighting, a safe parking lot, but when you ask them to pay, no way man, just do it. Mayor Copeland is doing a fine job, and remember the foundations has all the casino money to speak of, whatever is left has already been spent by previous administrations.

  6. Teapublican must be a hoax correct? So your master plan was for R's to lose White House, lose the Senate, and have D's demonstrate they they are the only ones who want a middle class tax cut. we are all sacrificing, some by making less money, some by fighting wars, why is it ridiculous for some to pay more for the society that provides that wealth. There are a lot of countries that do not tax, i would not want to live in them, no thank you, i like my country and understanding it cost money. By the way, it is President Obama, as it was President Bush. Your disrespectful approach may explain why you lose elections --

Any negative comment is uneducated and misguided, Don, created and will continue to create more jobs for residents than anyone posting on this thread. He also is a compassionate man who has not abandoned our area, just lending his talents to new arenas. Thank you Weiss family for you years of contribution to our area.

  8. Doug - I appreciate your willingness to tolerate insulting commentary for providing factual data that relates to the election. I most love that D's call your paper: republiCONS and evidently this individual considers it STD, neither one very nice i would suppose. So you have effectively upset the far sides of each of the political spectrum, congratulations keep up the good work. Sheesh, you endored Romeny, Zoeller, Bennett, Neimeyer, Donnelly, Gregg, Visclosky, O'Donnell, Canderleria Reardon, Vandenburgh, on federal and state races.. won some, lost some and both sides blame you for being one sided.. i chalk it up to sore losers who resort to name calling when things do not go there way, oh yeah, my person lost it is NWI Times fault.. or is it my candidate faults, or my campaign faults, no let's blame the voters, yeah the voters they are stupid (and you wonder why you lose, calling voters stupid probably not a winning slogan)

  10. The Times is a Newspaper, they educate on the front page and the editorialize in a section clearly labeled: Editorial. I thank them for what they do, evidently R's think it is a democratic leaning paper, and D's think it is a republican leaning paper. And by the way, no one, no one cares who their coroner, recorder, surveyor are and good for not giving them publicity. Election are by the "people" insulting who is selected is insulting your neighbors, but my guess is most on the comment threads are lacking friends, thus they have a great deal of free time. Oh wait, Times is a bad paper hate it .. but will spend my time commenting on how much i hate it, people mental illness needs responsible treatment, if you hate it don't read it? I appreciate real "news" and not msnbc rhetoric or Fox rhetoric, just facts i will make up my own mind.
