  1. Yes he killed a man and there's no excuse for what he did but then people like you would argue and whine about the amount it costs tax payers to house criminals. So, wouldn't it be better to get him out of the facility? If he can be helped then great! People make mistakes and it's not like he has a lengthy record like some people. I'm not saying that he should be excused or forgiven but if he wants help then that's great considering many people do not. If his family will be around him and ensure that he's on the right track that would be great too.

  2. While there may be other things to focus on since protests at funerals in Porter has been relatively low I believe that they should be banned regardless. There's no reason for them, especially at a funeral. I agree with ValpoNative69 - it doesn't hurt to make it a law at all.

  3. I believe Krazkat2 was just stating the fact that not everyone who does drugs commits crimes but not specifically related to this man. It's sad that he took multiple carts of things from that shop and no one noticed. I understand it's a crime but really? I'm glad he's getting an opportunity to get some help and recovery.

  4. Um, no one really knows what happened here. Just because it was reported doesn't mean it's the truth. Most people will believe anything! And no, I do not know this man before people start accusing me of something. I feel bad for individuals who were abused but at the same time it's her first time reporting it. Maybe because she needed medical attention or maybe just because of some other reasons. Truth is, if there's really cameras then the incident was caught but it didn't make mention of that. Being assaulted in a local vet parking lot... and no one saw? It's not that big and the reception is normally by the parking lot windows. There's something that's not adding up to me.

  5. I agree with all the comments stated before. It is sad that Amanda is gone and she won't come back. The circumstances surrounding it, while unclear still, are sad.
    However, while Dustin may have been found guilty I think people need to remember he's just a person too. Do people, normal people, go day to day killing each other? No. I believe there was something that got into Dustin that made him do this. I do not know him but it takes a lot to end someones life I could imagine.
    Regardless, people need to remember that Dustin has a family (it doesn't matter if people feel they're good or bad - there's no need to judge them) and the things they say about him are hurtful to them and damaging. And when he comes out (if he does only get the 20ish years stated somewhere else) he will still be young and his life is ruined and his parents lives were ruined because of people, much like those here, who scrutinize and hate when they don't know all the facts because they simply weren't there. I wasn't there either but trust me, NWI Times isn't going to release everything.

  6. I'm a little confused about everyone's reactions. Yes, they're expensive to house. Of course they are fed because it's humane to do so. Would you rather them out around your children? Oh no! Because once they let one out (early, escaped, or they served their time) everyone is whining about how they'll end up back in there. So really, what would you like to be done to these inmates?
    And why does everyone think jail/prison is glamorous and they get everything they want? I've been in a few jails (touring/looking for a job - not a criminal) and they are far beyond that.

  7. I'm not going to lie and say I've been keeping up with this all because I haven't. However, I thought everyone was innocent until proven guilty? I guess not anymore. With the newspaper posting this mans picture around like he's already guilty. In a way I hope he is because I know he's not going to have much of a life after the trial is over.
    From what I've read (which was a few days ago) that they feel he's guilty because of some DNA, a shirt that resembles some other one, and that he acted suspicious after she went missing. Well, I'm not so sure about the DNA but I'm sure there's probably more than one way it could have gotten there. The shirt? I don't see why that's a huge deal. And of course he didn't act natural when she went missing! Who would?

  8. Apparently most of the comments in this are from confused individuals. Gabriella's was not intending to rip or scam anyone on gift cards or anything like that. Paul (the man mentioned) does not even work in the restaurant and is more of the owner of the building and landlord. So, Paul put the word out that it's closing when the owners of the restaurant didn't even decide on it yet. Therefore, making people angry. Paul and the owners/workers/anyone else involved in it are not the same people. No one from Gabriella's went into city hall to look into conversion for apartments -- once more that was Paul. Please read and understand before making the restaurant look bad.
    To all those that were saying they were scamming people or trying to rip them off... it was been open constantly since Christmas so if you had a question then you could easily stop by and get it solved. It's not that hard.

  9. I'm a former VU student and I have always thought the purpose of the Harre Union was to serve as a "front door for students", even if it's in the middle of campus. I'm confused on why they felt the need to waste more money to build a center for the purpose of new students when there was a building already doing that (Kretzmann - the financial aid and Registrars office). I have always felt they need to save money instead of building things that aren't necessarily needed (like this) and apply that money towards financial aid needs for students who really need it.
    In unrelated news I think it looks like a gas station.

  10. The people who complain that it is the fault of Obama really do not know what they're talking about. It's unfortunate that the business closed due to the bank not extending them money. I would always see them driving around and I know someone who once worked there. He loved it. However, the president can't just create jobs. How is he supposed to do this? And why is it his fault as opposed to the business? Maybe the businesses don't have jobs because they aren't getting business and can't fund employers. It happens during every presidents reign. Jobs come and go and there's always some sort of economic turmoil. It takes years (and yes, longer than 4... longer than Obama has been in office) to make things this bad.
    I agree with a lot of people who are saying the blame isn't to be placed on the economy OR the president but rather their management (or president if they have one).
