1. I only see like 3 engines in the picture...... Ans its called "mutual aid". Different departments are called to respond, so not every rig in the town is tied up at the fire.

2. Are you kidding me? In Lake County, the second city with the most fires is East Chicago... With Gary taking number 1. Schererville does not have more people actually, E.C. has around 500 more people. In my opinion East Chicago would more rather need firefighters than a deputy chief. And think about all the money East Chicago could save if their political runners take a lesser of a paycheck they already dont deserve.

3. You cant compare a firetruck to your car.... That just doesn't work. I'm not sure, but last time i checked, i noticed that a normal everyday vehicle doesn't have a big ladder on it. I also noticed that normal cars function way differently than a firetruck too. I wonder why... And 19 years is quite a long time, over time vehicles start to wear down and function more poorly. When your house is on fire and you need the FD, i'm 100% sure your going to blame it on the FD when the the ladder doesnt want to raise due to its age.

4. Oh exactly, Prompt brings in a big revenue but has shoddy service. Most private ambulance services staff only one paramedic along with an emt on an ambulance. Every fire based EMS division around here staffs 2 paramedics per ambulance. Now what would you get the better care with? And the fact that the Fire based EMS personnell are also firefighters too.

5. @RealTimePundit: The positions of Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief are politically appointed jobs. I cant speak for what they do. And the new chief isnt even from around here, shes making her own decisions on how it should be ran, she's making things complicated.

6. Oh right on brother i hear you. And theres one other mayor that could have compared... Rudy Clay, he gutted the GFD.
   
   Im sick and tired of these mayors making public safety the city scapegoat. They cut pay, benefits, equipment and staffing. They seem to be in such financial ruins, yet the mayor gets a 6 figure paycheck and a $50,000 city take home car. All the other members of the mayors political cabinet get these luxuries too! Yet the FD gets one less firefighter or apparatus, and the PD gets less cops and squad cars on the street.

8. How bout we re-open Hammond FD Engine 4... Permanently disbanded 2 weeks ago due to "budget costs"
   Hammond PD got a bunch of new squad cars and now they have these extra millions for pedestrian bridges that will probably go unused.

9. Not tryin to start any sh*t here, just speakin my mind.... but... I see a few of you defending the 3 guys saying what they did was a mistake... its not a mistake. You don't deliberately break into someones house by accident. You don't flee from the cops either on accident. They were flying down the road at 90 miles per hour, they could have killed somebody!! Do you not think about all the lives these reckless guys put in danger??
