Mark Oprisko must like reading his name in the paper...he has got to go... he does nothing for Portage other than make a living getting people drunk........Olga did a flyer also a week or so before her desperation to get re elected, but the dems thought this was OK. She is gone,hopefully forever. She was the worst Mayor Portage ever had. Jim Snyder will grow Portage, and reduce the deficit at the same time. Citizens of Portage, remember all the BS both Opriskos have caused and Vote them out .

What a joke ......Fifty dollars a year. Cm on, be for real.....does this mean that big companies maybe wanting to come to portage to perhaps locate here can't pickup a dinner or bring the mayor to their facility to look at? Before it was Craig Hendrix killing Portage.......now its Stidham and Oprisko....

Someone needs to question Chris Stidhams background about what it costs to employ him and also it takes sometimes as many as 3 requests or more to get paid. He should just worry about his job .

You obviously do not appreciate what the new mayor is trying to do.....he is a hard worker and proud to be Mayor of Portage....trying to reduce insurance costs, keeping the invadrs out of Portage, cleaning up the streets, made City Hall look presentable using city workers where possible, trying to make up OLGAS 1.1 million dollar deficit, and most of all dealing with 5 democrats that try to block anything he tries to do....sounds like the 60 min. show last night where US Senators are quitting because party lines cannot accomplish anything for the good of our country, and the Senate is incapable of getting anything done........Jim Snyder is a good person and what he is accused of is within the law............Move on , Olga and her cronies were the ones covered with perfume and lipstick

You obviously do not know public bid process. Large jobs are advertised, bonded , and put out to bid(per law) and delivered in a sealed envelope, opened and read aloud in public (unless, of course it was handled by Olga and Craig Hendrix, who elected to only open 1 bid on the University Center as Free Speech wrote above). I doubt Circle R will have any projects over 75k just handed to them in the next 3 yrs. They will have to be lowest bidder ie: Portage Waste Treatment went to a Merrillville firm. You are way off base in the Construction world.

You truly must be an idiot.....some cities have rules that require an out of town contractor must be 10% below a local contractor to win a competive bid, irregardless on the size, could be a million dollars giving the local guy a 100k dollar advantage......The Times is advertising for Northwest IN to buy locally, why shouldnt a govt entities buy locally if possible ? There are laws giving taxing agencies to award up to 75,000 without a bidding process , I wouldnt think there is a Mayor in Indiana that encourages using out of town businesses for supplies,work, or any items that are purchased. Also, If I understand the article, it looks like the work was done long before the trip, and the small bid received also was too............Now, if the 500,000 bid that a Merrillvlle Company was awarded went a different way, maybe you have a point....but , in this case, it appears you are the one either wishing to slam the Mayor, or Contractor, or both..........Move on
