- All great ideas. Anyone remember the glass with the wire in it. This is the original "security" glass. Less expensive tha bullet proof, but gets the job done. Everyone also needs to remember when the school district comes looking for funds for these "extra" SRO's, not to be in the front row saying "don;t raise my taxes". We are people have a funny nack for speaking about things we feel passionately about, but when there's a financial toll attached, we look at our checkbooks and how it actually impacts our bottom line. Anyone thought about what the next "soft" target will be after we "fortify" the schools. Remember the old sayin "where there's a will, there's a way". I'd imagine the next thing is to protect the school busses and the parking lots, where every school kid has to pass through to actually get into the "safety" of the school.

- I guess the renovations wil be "going on indefintiely". The real shame here is the previous owenrs were allowed by EVERYONE (residents, local authorities) to do the same thing, get cited for severe fire violations, upgrade and sell. Everyone is guilty of this to a certain degree. We've all frequented restaurants that utilize immigrant (some legal, some not) help. From a businness mans approcah, this is how he can keep prices and overhead low, because we all want those $3.99 breakfasts, or $5.00 lunches or sub $15.00 dinners. Makes me wonder if there previous owners weren't scrutinized (especially since Pargan had been around for a long time)as much because they were ethnic and not African-American. And for all those will "arm-chair" quarterbacks that may say I'm racist, I'm an educated white-man who lives in Northwest Indiana. Were all hypocrites.

- The question should be which fund is this coming from? Certain funds have limitations on where the money can be alloctaed too and for what reason. Has the cost for this already impacted the residents? Is it inline with surrounding departments?

- As others have mentioned, the affect is what every other working person see's for the next fiscal year. Doesn't make it fair for anyone. Everyone is having to do more with less (less take home pay). Does anyone see the "reset button: coming? Sooner or later a vast majority of wage earners wont be able to make "ends meat", which will lead to a massive default. Years of "charity" and needed support are catching up, and now everyone is all of a sudden concerned, because the bill is coming due. Too many reasons to list, but giving free medical care to illegals, permanent disability to people who can work, but find it easier to sit at home and collect "aid". Companies keep wanting to make profits in the Billions, which require them to layoff. Isn't a million or two good enough. Maybe a limit on corporate earnings would help. Soon there wont be enough people working to pay for the goods being mass produced by robots. What happens than?

- Sorry to tell everyone, but they don't handle much of anything in school anymore (even teaching). It's turned into a "CYA" environment. Issues such as this SHOULD be addressed through in/out of school suspensions. But in today's world, there's always the fear or "implied" fear that something worse will happen. This is only a small reason why our courts and jails are so over-crowed. It also only contributes to a "softer" and more gentle approcah taken with our youth. Maybe some community sergice in the form of serving lunch to their fellow classmates or even cleaning the pots/pans would help. Oh, I'm sorry. Can't do that our the Service workers union may complain about job security. It's a joke.
