- That's funny there was a press release in this very paper, its posted on the city's website and its on EC TV as well as the EC TV's Facebook page. What do you want someone to call your house...EC residents just love to complain.

- Lets see...from what I hear the reason why the mayor opted to do the cut in the area of sick days was because this was costing the city the most money. Just as someone said below whenever a fireman or police officer calls off the city has to pay another officer overtime. Doesnt seem terrible until you look at the amount of call offs, for example (and these are real numbers) there are roughly 75 firemen in EC on average there are 30 call offs per month that is 30 times each month that overtime has to be paid. Mind you they receive in total 12 sick days on top of the 12 weeks of vacation time that a 5 year veteran firemen receives each year. So is it the end of the world that their sick days get reduced from 12 to 6???????? It is also my understanding that the mayor settled upon this option after failed negotiation with fire/police reps. There was a 12/31/12 deadline to reach an agreement and the reps offered up nothing so the mayor came up with this conclusion....so I think everyone should think again before they jump on the side of the Fire and Police in this matter...just as the mayor pointed out they could be jobless like the 15 that just go fired in Gary.

- So not pleased with a great majority of the people running. Some have cases pending, others have poor educational backgrounds, and others couldn't pass a background check/drug test. It appears that some of these people are the usual suspects (Duke Florence, Kenny Monroe, Drake Morris etc...) who just like running for office/position because they want the "perks & power" that come along with it. I was just in Speedway gas station listening to Drake Morris telling a customer about his master plan and about how if he is elected along with a few other candidates in particular he would be unstoppable. Too many of these people are not in it for the kids at all. I, just like our mayor supports an elected school board however, I just wish it was a little harder or some kind of screening process before people can be considered candidates. I hope people use their brains and vote in large numbers because I am sure that the guys listed above will be equip with enough 5 dollar bills and hotdogs to lure the misinformed to the poles.
