1. I remember learning some time ago the reason Merrillville never became a city was because Merrillville didn't want to be obligated to provide public housing. Too late! We have section 8 and worse crime now. Hobart should restore the commercial district across from the trailer parks on Route 6 between Wisconsin and Michigan. Merrillville should become a city so they can tax as they desire and be able to afford their citizens the services they deserve. Ditch the old Annex lines - call it a mistake move on with other issues which do affect public safety.

   If changing a zip code increases public safety... then Hobart should annex all of Merrillville and be done with it.

3. @longtimetaxpayer, actually "EXPERIMENTING" is the whole benefit of federalism and local governance. The open market works; regulations and mandates usually do not work.

4. She and her family need to depart Merrillville post haste. Its not necessary to put yourself at risk in this jungle. If the animals couldn't even write a legible note or pick the right house - there is no rational way to be prepared. Just make your exodus today and be safe.

5. I have a good feeling this guy is going to get caught quickly.
   Raising the awareness of the spare tire seems to be raising suspicions already.
   
   Someone should put up a reward for information leading to the arrest.

   This sounds like the beginnings of an ugly history repeating itself.
   How familiar are we now with warrant-less checkpoints and TSA molestations occurring everyday?

7. To Principal James Goetz and the rest of the board, - Train these kids to behave like guilty prisoners and you will foster their development as criminals.
   
   If you want mandatory screenings for the students - then you should submit yourself and your entire staff to a daily urinalysis.
   
   Understandably, your students must already be familiar with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I see no warrant to violate their 4th amendment right which guards against illegal searches and seizures.
   
   Do you believe you can make up the rules as you go along fumbling in the dark?

9. Here's an idea for the Merrillville Town Council. Legislate the tax today and then enforce it tomorrow. Let AG Greg Zoeller see you in court. Its easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.
