  1. Maybe if the newspaper actually did some hard investigative reporting on each story instead of reporting half empty stories there would not be vitriolic comments. Please inform the readers with details and all the facts. You have an obligation in reporting the whole truth and not just what agenda you are supporting. Let the reader form his/her opinion with all the facts. Those who take the time to read the news truly want to be informed with the truth.

  2. Ross say's: "McDevitt, a former Lansing police chief, is co-owner of the consulting group REM Management Services and has global experience on public safety issues. He helped Porter County solve its problems."

According to this newspaper - "Porter County is $2 million dollars short of funding it's E911 System each year." Yea, a big thank you go out to to Rem for "fixing" things over here in Porter County.

  3. If the community and parents are to be apart of the success of our children, then we need to question the high school Principal why he thought it was important to announce on the PA system at the end of the school day, "Chesterton schools have been designated to bring the drug dogs into the schools, so guys keep your stuff at home." Thanks for the warning. Maybe now the school and school dance environment will be a drug and alcohol free environment. Administration plays a huge part in the schools success.

  4. News alert Nancy, school districts are asking for a referendum to raise taxes to just maintain what they already have. There are re-occuring costs with laptops. Speak to the IT departments of the school districts. Maybe then you would get an idea what is really involved in giving laptops to every student. It is not just opening the box and handing the computer to a student.

Find another idea to run your re-election on.

  5. This isn't about the lack of available building space in Valparaiso. Valparaiso could have easily offered a location off the 49 Bypass as Chesterton has done.

  6. I think you are right on. This was a simple case of two communities within the same county not honoring a reasonable understanding that one will not attempt to fleece the other in the name of "economic development."

  7. Sorry ram-wilport, thats not going to happen. A huge tax abatement was the candy which made this deal happen. Valpo evidently wasn't willing to mortgage it's future away as Chesterton obviously has.
December 23, 2012 9:18 am on Urschel will build new headquarters, plant in Chesterton
  8. Valpo has lost its Mojo and Chesterton found it laying on the side of the 49 Bypass.

  9. What on earth is going on? The Porter County Commissioners give the Town of Chesterton nearly $900,000 to lay a larger sewer line along the 49 bypass and the next thing we know Chesterton announces that Urschels is moving to the exact location where this new larger sewer line is going to be located?

So Chesterton took county tax dollars which were at least partially collected within the City of Valparaiso and invested those tax dollars in such a way to help entice a business within the City of Valparaiso to relocate to the town of Chesterton. Talk about being snookered…..

  10. From what I read in the newspapers, the county's health insurance is more expensive. Those commissioners have that screwed up as well.
