  1. Raymond: Please go to the nearest Lost and Found and look for your brains. Gary may have its problems, but not everything evil originates in Gary. Perhaps, just perhaps, if everyone stopped giving Gary a bad rap, it might improve. I strongly suggest you take a long look at the surrounding communities; there is crime, political mess, and sexual problems galore. Lay off Gary, especially if you do not know the truth!

  2. It truly amazes me: a family has lost a loved one and some idiot wants to bring in the name of our President. All Ponder This needs to be concerned about is the suspects do not look like his/her sons. There is so much racial hatred in this country. It needs to cease, just as all this killing. All the terrorists have to do is just sit back and wait: this country with people thinking like Ponder This will do itself in. I offer sincere sympathy to the family. Remember the memories; they last forever.

  3. Good grief! Those of you who complain that the same old teachers were there when you were a student or those of you who believe that younger teachers would bring new energy into the system are dead wrong. The older teachers knew the subject matter. They did not give treats for doing well; their lesson plans did not involve group work day after day. These new teachers may be versed in all the new ways to get a child's attention, but I am NOT interested in that. As a parent, I want my child to truly know math skills. I want him to know grammar. I want him exposed to the classics. Trust me, these new, younger teachers know practically nothing about the subject matter. I say we should bring back the retired teachers who emphasized writing, vocabulary, reading without all the cute rewards. Learning is hard work, and we need teachers who know what they are teaching. Also, we need a return to a full curriculum that involves non-college bound classes. When will we realize that everyone is NOT college bound? Needless to say, none of this will work if parents are not involved. Learning begins at home, not in school. Students should be prepared for the learning process at HOME. Schools should NOT be expected to replace the role of the parent.
    Do you want the teacher to give birth to the student, too?

  4. My,my,my! I think it's time for some bloggers to eat crow! Turns out the victim is well known to the gendarmes in Porter County, NOT evil, African-American dominant Gary. This morning's commenters were truly upset : calling Portage an extension of Gary, saying "they" (African-Americans, I presume), should stay in one place--Gary. I do not think this victim is African American. I am an African-American who has lived in Portage for nearly 25 years. Believe it or not, there are numerous non African-Americans who live in Gary! This emphasis on race must STOP. Racism is a bane and will be the end of the great nation. Why can't we ALL work together in this great country and great city of Portage?
    Also, let us not forget that this shooting victim had a family. Surely, we can send up a prayer for both him and his family. That is more important than worrying about crime coming in from Gary. By the way, doesn't Porter County have a serious drug problem to deal with? Enough said.

  5. McPutz, Jr.: PLEASE do not refer to these thugs as "animals"! I would rather be around cats, dogs, horses, and other real animals than be around the young thugs who are out there today. My cats give me infinite more pleasure than any association I could have with many of the young people today. These are rescue cats, not expensive ones with pedigrees. I have found that animals are much kinder than most people. These young thugs should see what it is like to have an animal adore you; they don't ask for ipods, iphones, or ipads. They do not walk around with tempers and illegal guns ready to take a person's life in a heartbeat. These are thugs who need to be in prison, and I would gladly pay more taxes to build more prisons to KEEP them in prison for a very LONG time. Give me an animal any day!
