  1. Damnn shame 2 homicides in the same week, less than a block away. Guthrie has been the hugest problem in East Chicago since I can remember. How about they tear down those buildings. Get them out of E.C. You can put all the police you want out there it is never safe no matter what day or time. It seems like E.C is getting all of Chicago's garbage. There is no respect for human life anymore, these "gangsters" are so tough they shoot innocent toddlers now. This baby not only has to recover but will never know or grow with his father. Do Something about Guthrie already Copeland!

  3. There goes the neighborhood! Bet parents of Rachel would never suspect daughter of being a get away driver. Crimes are mainly commited because people are poor and have to try and survive someway, doesn't make it right of course a crime is a crime. However something(Rachel's address) tells me this girl was not poor, and just trying to "be down" for her man. At least he is a looker lol yikes

  4. I would love to speak to the committee but Indiana is so corrupt and political I would not waste my time. I write on here hoping someone on the committee will read it and get some ideas. I live in Lake County and pay taxes here so I do not want to get screwed by "the man" by trying to go about this consolidation all fancy..simplify the problem don't get top of line stuff just to look pretty and stick it to the citizens. Apply for grants there is money out there that does not need to come out of our pockets. God bless america lol sorry it just felt right.

  5. Sorry I am not to familiar with Porter county dispatch center I am more familiar with the Cook county ones in Illinois and I do not like when dispatchers give attitude but us as callers have to know where we are at all times. At least give as cross street, city and or a business you are in front of when you call. Do not get frustrated with the call takers when they ask multiple questions. They are trained a specific way and have guidelines and procedures to follow they can get in trouble for not asking pertinent information and or relaying it to the officers/fire departments. And just because they are "asking alot of questions" does not mean help isn't getting dispatched because usually one person takes calls and there is another dispatcher who sees the call and is already giving out the call.

  6. Yes one frequency for police...fire/ems always need to have its own sorry for not clarifying..but yes 6 towns on one pd frequency would work I do not know much about Porter county so I do apologize for referencing them but I know for a fact in cook county IL there are various unified dispatch centers that monitor/share a frequency up to 6 towns. And yes 6 or 5 dispatchers working at one time handle those towns. They have a cad system where you enter a call in and everyone in the room sees the call and they then distinguish what calls go out first due to priority ie; gunshot victim gets priority over a noise complaint..all fire/ems calls get toned out in the order they are received. You have one dispatcher giving out the calls as they are received and other dispatchers taking calls. The dispatcher on the radio will not get walked on because she/he is the one prioritizing the calls given out and with technology these days the officers themselves have a mobile device in their cars and see the address and nature of call as soon as some one enters it so they can already start heading that way before the dispatcher even gives it out at times. This can work in Lake county but they have to be smart do you really want Gary, East Chicago and Hammond on one band? Heck No!!! That's why you split them up. Yes the dispatchers have a lot of stress/pressure on them lives are at risk here and they are usually the first person who has to talk to someone when there is an emergency or situation in progress when the officer gets there the situation usually calms down and or the offender or suspect flees.

  7. Lake County is going about this all wrong.....Consolidating is supposed to save money, not require hard working citizens to pay more taxes in an already bad economy. Suggestion.. use a pre-existing center , it does not need to be brand new, it does not need to cost over 30 million. Why not split up the cities according to call volume/location. Be on one frequency together at one center using 1 psap(public safety answering point). Since Lake county is so large Indiana already said we require 2 psaps. So just thinking outloud Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Griffith, Munster,Schererville in one center (location to be determined) however they can use East Chicago pd or Hammond pd for example which are good size dispatch rooms already set up add additional equipment to be able to handle these cities ie; 6 counsels having 6 dispatchers working at all time either working 12 hr shifts or 3 8 hour shifts all under one frequency able to back the other psap/cities remaining in Lake County...ie; Gary,Lake Station, Hobart, Merrillville, Crown Point, Cedar Lake, Lowell all in one center(location to be determined) but Crown point pd or Hobart pd may be a good location have same set up 6 counsels 6 dispatchers etc. A lot of dispatchers will lose jobs but it is important to remember when hiring that you do take a dispatcher from each town that is familiar with the city and has experience. And for those dispatchers that are not able to get a job full time maybe can work in the centers part time to cover shifts when needed. Do not pick our pockets for this consolidation be smart do your homework go to Porter county and ask how they are doing it or how about cross the border and go to Illinois and see how they do it.Work together the objective of emergency personnel(police, fire, ems, dispatch) is to save lives and have a quick response time for those in need of help. Consolidating does all of that I am for consolidating but I am not for a 30 million dollar building and I am not for a tax increase. Get it together!
