- I live in a union family in hobart. I have to agree with the mayor. I don't feel it is union busting, if they are a serious union they can find means to hold meetings and communicate union issues like any other union.

- I hope they bring this effort to the traffic outside of the mall. Drivers using common sense isn't very common in this area.

- Be nice if some of these said "Proud" union families actually showed up for union meetings to help fight for their rights. The sign in the yard that bumper sticker on your car doesn't mean anything if you don't go fight for your rights.

- Amazing how the Times can twist this story and play off the communities emotions. What's even more shocking is that the community is naive enough to allow it. Not trying to justify this mans actions but I'm also not going to allow the media blow this out of context.

- Well the first mistake is depending on the school district to babysit your child while you work. Virtual class rooms in an option, the current school system isn't working. Class rooms over crowded, under paid teachers, students with special needs being over looked. For every excuse given for why this isn't a good idea for an alternative option I can find 3 reasons why it is. As far as cost. Lake county school district is the only one I've heard of that parents pay book rental from elementary to high school in public schools, there is not much difference in cost compared to buying a laptop, ipad, or tablet plus internet and apps to paying for these book rentals. The funding for one school could supply the whole county with access to virtual class room. There is nothing wrong with evolving with todays technology. We already use these tools for socializing and entertainment why not focus more in using them for education. It's just an option to me that sounds more realistic then sending my child to a prison.

- imagine taking education to a new level. In todays world technology provides us with the means to educate our children using tools such as ipads notebooks laptops. Of course at first you think high tech high cost but compare the cost of providing access and maintaining a virtual class room to the everyday issue's we deal with in today's world not just security but all around cost. I can go on for hours explaining this idea for a new option to educate our children. We should consider all options and think about the long term effects it will have on our children. Do we add so much security that it turns our school into a prison like setting for them to learn? Or do we explore new options create new environments without the distractions of armed guards metal detectors. The beauty of being an american is we can make the choices to create new options.
