The whole city pretty much projects a negative image. A far cry from the bustling, vibrant entity it once was. Downtown’s a ghost town as is the embarrassing Marquette Mall. Manufacturing has gone south of the border or across the pond. Pretty much the only bright spot is the area south of U.S. 20. And, perhaps, the marina. Or am I missing something?

Light ‘Pollution’ in Beverly Shores? Not hardly. Beverly Shores is a heavily wooded community and one can be hard pressed to find an area to ‘view the stars’, except along the lakefront. How many folks in Beverly Shores actually are avid stargazers? Many of the town’s streetlights have been turned off under the pretense of aiding local stargazers. That’s just ridiculous, turning off street lights in a town to accommodate a few privileged folks. Many of the homes in Beverly Shores are owned and visited only occasionally by out-of-towners who do not have to deal with the dark areas in the town and the crime rate that can only be encouraged by the removal of street lighting.

How about some penalty for the Lazies that park right in front of supermarkets, often in the fire lane? Because they are too lazy to walk a few extra feet, they force people to walk around them and often cause traffic issues because they are taking up a lane that is needed for traffic flow.

The largest prescribed fire will take in about 328 acres at Derby Ditch. The burn is part of the park’s long-term restoration efforts in Derby Ditch -- a wetland area that runs between U.S. 12, Beverly Drive, East State Park Road and Broadway, south of Beverly Shores, according to IDNL officials.
