- Patti knwos the truth? I sure wish Patti KNEW how to spell. There are about 150 guys that work there. I should know. I am one of them. All of this McDermott bashing is stupid. Yes the city gave them a tax abatement because he didnt want to company to move down south as they were being lured to do so. So yes, he saved 150 jobs from being lost in the city and 150 less unemployment claims. The company said that business was great, overtime was mandatory, and all was well. Then the overtime stopped. Then some weeks we worked 4 day weeks. Then a week layoff in July. Then 2 weeks off in October. 2 more coming in November and the permanent one in December. Anything seem wrong with this picture? There is no way in Hades that demand dropped off that severely in that short amount of time. So either A) they over projected demand or B) its big bonus time and rather than paying all of us to work, they cut more than half the plants payroll so the fat cats can stay fat. Regardless, I hope McDermott can do something tomorrow. I'm a father with bills to pay and I don't want to sit on my rear and collect unemployment or welfare like many of our lazier Hammond residents. I WANT to work as do most of the guys being laid off. McDermott has nothing to do with the foolishness going on inside this companies offices. If anything, if something can be done to prevent the layoff, I would be grateful to the Mayor instead of bashing him like some disgruntled ex girlfriend who feels used up and thrown away. We want to keep our jobs and I could care less who is critical of the workers. You're such a concerned big mouth? Maybe go the the plant and offer some time to help all of us who are losing our jobs around the holidays. If not then close your rancid hole and remember 94 guys on the holidays who are going to be struggling while you sit at home on your couch while your husband or boyfriend supports you. Be about action keyboard warrior or shut up.
