  1. well guess as RegionRefugee stated I would bees from one of those "father's economy" and rightfully so. I worked union hourly salary with darn good pay as it was however each week and a half a day was added as a paid sick day, 1/2 personal (sick or otherwise) days per 3 months with pay, 4 weeks vacation pay, fantastic medical coverage for myself and 3 children (out of pocket was barely $100.00 per year), very decent Orthodontic coverage for children.

There were other benefits others received that I didnt because of their circumstances like college tuition reimbursement, time off because of being an officer of some level in the union and taking part in hearings, MANY other situations .......................

IT WAS ALL BEAUITUFL ......until bankrupcy......until the company took the hearing and went totally wild.......NOT paying creditors BUT paving with asphalt 15,000 yrds of roadway, we could see the handwriting on the wall. They were putting the money where it shouldn't go and where it should go.............((( no one knows ))).........DOORS CLOSED/JOBS G.O.N.E................bye - bye your father's day of living...bye - bye

  2. Just last week or so they listed how many companies failed to hire the number of people they claim they were going to do so back two, three, four even five or more years ago. We read this all of the time and I for one has become skeptical when the number is in the teens let alone 216 by 2016.
Down to the nitty gritty/ wages. Will the wages "support" ones self or a family and what are the benefits like at this company? I guess since the company has already been established research can give those interested some information in advance if they would care to think of employment.
However needing a job now doesn't do you or anyone any good.

  3. Unions are what they used to be and can't do as they used to do. I worked for LTV for 25 1/2 yrs and was not allowed to come back due to a surgery because of the idiot company doctor. I had one lousy restriction within my job discription which I could not perform and which I did perform maybe 5% of the time however he would not let me come back. The company was suppose to furnish me with an attorney for my hearing with the Administrative Law Judge but never did, the union couldn't get them to budge, deliberate? I went anyway and lo and behold I was approved for disability which LTV did NOT like because they had to pay me..LONG STORY SHORT...THEY WENT BANKRUPT which the majority of us saw it coming, they were spending money on JUNK ITEMS and STUPID PROJECTS.
Arcelor has from time to time offered buy outs and may do so again but some people and their jobs are not considered for these buy outs which isnt fair but what is fair anymore?
Good pay, good number of vacations, health benefits, lump sum, % increases AND helping retirees is ALL GOOD but can a company do ALL and be profitable to keep in business is the question LIKE LTV or fall apart LIKE LTV? This is what union members need to ask themselves and I was union and gave up a lot one contract we decided the next ***NO***, we won't do it again and SEE WHAT HAPPENED OVERALL, however we were small potatoes in the big scheme of things and we DID NOT make a difference in the decision making.............am I sorry??????????? YES, sorry for the COUPLES that worked for LTV that LOST....EVERYTHING, many starting over with 28, 29 and 30 years and YEARS AWAY from Social Security...........SO UNION PEOPLE PLEASE BECAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR........BEEN THERE...DONE THAT

  4. Gary NEEDS a lot of construction work IF only the money was available. Tear down all the abandoned homes that furnish the crack/drug houses and those that are NEAR being abandoned and still being used for drug business have Major Karen MAKE the police visit those buildings AT LEAST once an hour - if it means 3 squad cars at a time for safety THEN 3 SQUAD CARS AT A TIME until it isnt visited any longer. FINALLY WE ARE HEARING THE WORD (( UNION )) and rightfully so because CONSTRUCTION and UNION goes together and means good paying jobs. IDIOT Governor Daniels that wants Indiana to be Right to Work isnt doing workers any favors, he knows it and sits back and laughs at the troubles its causing. UNION pays more, PROTECTS MORE, BUT if you never worked union and think you can get away with a lot for your money think again - not in this economy because there is always someone in line wanting your job. Even the union reps don't want to support a slacker SOOOOOO MR. ROVER IF YOU feel you could fill the job with your attitude THINK AGAIN. I was union for 28-1/2 yrs and I worked hard for my money and did more than I was asked to do - loved it - was treated great by MY union and SUC-O by the company which filed bankrupcy - I WOULD NEVER work being a company employee UNLESS researching heard they treated their company people like GOLD ....however WHERE have you heard this....about what company that you would WANT to work for AND at a fantastic salary WITH fantastic BENEFITS too..........IF ONE EXISTS ................THEN GO FOR IT.................if you heard of one.....ask and betcha you will be told its...................UNION

  5. I worked for over 27 yrs. union and was forced by the companies idiot doctor into disability. The company was suppose to back me up with an attorney at my hearing with the Administrative Law Judge but a meeting never took place and the union was never able to get them to move their butts so I went on my own. The company was not only shocked but was absolutely pissed that the Judge approved my case because the doctor used just "one" reason for the disability which was within my job discription that I was not able to perform. It "was" legal however it fell under the law for Americans with Disability Act and the company doctor made no such recommendations or accomodations on my behalf for the entire 17 months and once the judge ruled the company could not go backwards "unless" I said I wanted my job back. When I went in to sign papers for FULL disability payments they (tried) to get me to accept the job back "with" accomodations of course, I refused. The company doctor was (let go) after that and sure it was because of me.
IF I was to work a union job and NOT want to pay dues I would quit and look for a non-union job, I have NEVER been a freeloader and never will be. ALL would know I'm not paying the dues and wouldn't have the guts to look my co-workers in the face and call them friends. As far as the dues go someone doesn't know what they are talking about - my pay stub stated every payday the breakdown of taxes PLUS the amount paid in dues to MY UNION so I knew exactly what amount was paid, if you don't know call your local and they will tell you.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE UNIONS - don't work union. Just hoping the unions don't become greedy and members don't want them to be greedy. The members MUST get together and demand what they want FROM their unions - not the other way around - FAIR WAGE is wanted but not to shut the business down.

  6. PRO or CON this will be investigated and I have a gut feeling that in Illinois it will show up that Mr. Lamas already has a record of some sort, maybe even molestation or at least child abuse. Possibly the reason to head to Indiana and a public water park in hopes of getting away with his "coping" more than just a feel from a couple of 10 yr. olds who THANK GOODNESS for a change were willing to cry wolf instead of blush and turn away. Was this the reason he so swifty decided to leave and as he was being pointed out swung at the dad and the cop hoping to get away scott free?, well the investigation will tell us more of the facts so as we can jump to all kinds of conclusions until then one thing for sure is totally off the charts and thats the comment by: DONTLOOKATME....a "fondler" is trying to go as far as they can go and eventually end up "molesting" so I have no idea what YOU would call it, is this a BIG difference to you? Knowing "first hand" what some "adolescent" girls are capable of means what? First thing a mother of a 22 yr. old son should be telling him at the age of 12 is respect girls no matter how they act or how they dress and keep your privates IN YOUR PANTS and your hands to yourself unless you either 1. want to be in jail, 2. be a teen dad, 3. both.
SOMETHING is really, really wrong with your thinking......YOU can think of a few times a stranger got to second base on a crowded day..... are you for real?, just what is second base to you? and to a mother or father your second base very well may have been considered "fondling". And if that isnt giving enough of an excuse lets now take the heat or the fact his cognitive skills aren't developed well enough because he is ONLY 22 and may not be mature enough, oh my I am ready to barf and it isnt due to the heat.
I know a few 20 yr. olds that are married, one a father of 2, has a great job as an Electrical Engineer, owns a beutiful home, he and his wife both have their own cars, spends time with children - great dad and husband, son, brother and cognitive skills are TOPS..........the other is married with no children as of yet. Been married for 3 years but both love to travel, own their own home, both have cars, every year they travel out of the country - last year it was 3 weeks to Spain, mostly hiking and camping. Both awesome jobs, she is a Pharmacist and he is a Finance Attorney - what would YOU rate their cognitive skills?
AND you give this idiot excuses after excuses, oh yes and strangers as well that I guess fondles you and you call it merely getting to second base, good thing you're not an adolescent..................................

  7. I gladly paid my dues and retired Union with over 27 years. If I didn't want to pay union dues I would have moved on to a non-union job. I feel its pretty low to receive benefits that many others receive and yet decide not to pay dues just because I don't have to. I for one couldn't be that kind of low life among my co-workers, all would know it was me receiving free entitlements. I would be taking a job from someone who would be thrilled to have my pay, pay my dues, have a griever if needed and file a claim WITHOUT being told (straight-out) "THERE'S THE DOOR, YOU'RE FIRE ". Can ANYONE say that about a non-union job?
How many do you know in non-union jobs have been outright fired after years of employment and not given a reason for the firing or not a reasonable reason when they went to claim unemployment, many even losing that fight. I for one will STAND UP FOR and STAND BEHIND the unions for they have been the backbone of this nation, have fought, MANY, MANY died for and continue to fight and I can only hope UNIONS NEVER TAKE TOO MUCH, ALWAYS GIVE ENOUGH, FOREVER BRAVE THE COURSE AND ALWAYS SUPPORT OUR NEW MEMBERS. Governor Daniels NEVER liked unions and would like to KILL everyone of them and I mean EVERYONE if he had his way. A lot of the Toll Road people were union and he LOVED seeing those hitting the road FAST.

  8. THANK YOU Mitch ...for what? How about giving it to teachers that work their fannies off to teach children that don't WANT TO LEARN, can't SPEAK DA ENGLISE, didn't come to school with A PENCIL and MOM (no DAD at home) DOESN'T KNOW 3RD OR 4TH GRADE MATH to help out after spending BIG BUCKS in college because they care and WANT TO TEACH. Instead TAKE MORE AWAY from them VIA their UNIONS as if YOUR CONTRACTS with them means "SPIT" - blame their unions because ITS ALL their fault, YOU had nothing to do with what is happening in the classroom and out of it.. At the ONSET a SIT DOWN should have taken place - GOVENOR - MAYORS - UNIONS - CITY OFFICIALS - FIRE - POLICE - from the furthest north to south and take a percentage everyone could life with for health insurance, pensions, pay and vacation pay FROM GOVENOR to CITY GARBAGE MAN - "maybe" 3 to 5 percent until the economy improves and no one is hit drastically and others float by unscathed like OUR MAN MITCH....just a thought in the scheme of things which of course is already too late
