  1. The officiating was a joke 1 offisides agaist Roosevelt in the whole first half, 12 men in the huddle, numerous holds, facemasks and blocks to the back, the coach spent more time on the field than anyone. More F bombs and GD's from Roosevelts coach, coaching the defense from Boone Grove side in the endzone and arguing with the side judge and only one offside call in the first half, not to mention the numerous delay of games not called, must be nice getting 35 seconds, this crew won the game how sad 16 vs 11.

  3. Your comments just prove that there are so many differences in opinion concernining racism and discrimination and nobody should have to "shut their mouth" regarding this seeing that it effects so many. I don't care who owned who 150 years ago. That was then and this is now and I should not be held responsible for what my ancestors may have done. Fair is fair and this certainly is not.

I don't necesarily agree with your $15.64 wage break down. I'm curious to know what school districts and state the majority of the teachers you know work in. I have worked in numerous schools in Northwest Indiana as a teacher (for a few yrs.), aid, sub., and volunteer for the past 25 years. I will state from my own experiences elem. teachers probably have a more strenuous job than m.s. and h.s. I do not know or have ever know any teachers that have put in 4-8 hrs. per weekend (maybe there are a few who do?). Maybe some put in time 1-2 hrs. per night grading papers but not the majority do not in m.s. or h.s. Many times the kids exchange and grade them in class. Regarding sports, yes they do not receive much but I can tell you from personal experience with my 3 kids, those coaches want to be there and some do it for no pay. They love the sports they coach and it is their own decision to be there. Teachers do not work one full month of the year. Every month has some kind of break whether it be Christmas, October break, President's Day, etc. Where can one find a job like that? They do have many personal days awarded each year too that they can carry over. It is not uncommon for a teacher to take off more than 10 days a school year. Sub plans take them 2 minutes to create. Pop in a movie, give a study hall, read (excluding elementary). Regarding the 8 hr. day, 30-40 min lunch is included in that along with a 50-60 min. prep. period, which many of them spend socializing with their co-workers instead of planning or grading papers. Yes, there are some great teachers that should be payed well but there seem to be three times as many poor teachers that should not be in the classroom. Many teachers are on their cell phones, computers, or landlines during classtime. Many dedicated coaches are working on sports (stats., plays, order forms, etc.) during class time. Maybe 25 years ago most college students went into this profession to actually teach, but many of them now go into it for the perks and many that are there now for a few years are burned out and it is just a job for them. Yes it's not high paying but it's decent for the actual amount of days they are there. It is there decision to be there.

  8. I am usually pro union but in the situation of teachers I am not. I think the teachers union has totally harmed our schools. I have worked in public and private schools for the past 22 years and in the public sector teachers have changed so much. I also have kids in public schools. I experience daily through site and my children's complaints numerous teachers not teaching more than a few minutes a class period and then assigning independent work, teachers on their computers (ebay, facebook, looking up athletic plays, surfing the web, etc.), Teachers are just not teaching anymore. As far as their salary, where can anybody go and make what they do for 180 days a year, and it's not even that many when you include all their sick and personal days. They do not work one full month a year when you include their October break, Christ. vacat., Spring break, Thanks. break, etc. They don't even work 8 hrs. a day because they have a prep period (which most of the time is not spent on classroom prep) and lunch. And contrary to belief, some did choose this profession for the perks and if not, they stay in it for them. My statements are not directed to the few teachers who do still teach and take pride in their job, but those are far and few between now. I'd like to add that I have only seen a few good teachers that are athletic coaches.
