Smoke detectors? Metal Bars on windows? Maybe the fire department was on another emergency. People need to quit complaining about the Mayor and the politicians need to quit complaining about public safety workers. Everyone needs to work together, if the state doesn't unfreeze the levy ,then how are cities suppose to operate on 2007 taxes. I hope this local tax passes and some more money starts coming in. Seems Gary is understaffed, how about EC and Hammond, Whiting.

I don't get it. They closed 2 branches and have the same amount of employees now as they did with 3 branches open. Every city and town plus the county have cut employees thru attrition but the library board has not cut anyone. Live within your means before asking for more.

People complain when the mayor spends money, then when he gets more money from other cities for water to better Hammond they complain again. I have a house 6, and water only cost me about 24.00 every 2 months. If you dont like what he is doing then move to Schereville and see how much you would pay monthly.
