If what you say is true then those people were worrying about a minor problem. I doubt many scientists were losing sleep over that. Today's climate change is a *much* more serious problem and it's very likely to unfold as predicted by practically *all* climate scientists. You shouldn't take your experience of a past minor issue, worked on by few scientists, to dismiss a much more serious threat with much more likelihood of happening according to almost all climate scientists.
