  2. Lauri, I believe you're mixing up incidents here. The gas main that was hit which caused the Walgreens to evacuate happened about 2 weeks ago on a completely different job (that was the Indianapolis Blvd reconstruction job). The incident that occurred today was in the residential subdivision just west of Wicker Park.

    Highlander51, the gas was located, but the elevation of the main varied and when digging through the roadway (asphalt overlaid on top of concrete pavement), the contractor struck the gas main. The main was just underneath the concrete pavement, but where it was located via potholing, it was found to be 3-3.5 feet deep. Unfortunately for the contractor, they will still have to foot the bill.
