  2. Is this column written in jest, is it satirical?
Of course he sounds like a republican, because he was(and probably still is a republican at heart). He switched parties when he decided to run for mayor of Hammond, because he knew he couldn't beat dedelow in the primaries, and of course he knew that Hammond was a democratic city at heart despite some exceptions. The author seems to give him credit for pragmatism and not ideology, but McDemott's pragmatism is not admirable, it is pragmatism of the opportunistic variety, and has at its core a vacuum, devoid of any conviction or philosophy.
Sorry Mr Ross, this is not at all the kind of pragmatism we need in Washington. And again, is your column serious?

  3. We pay $.22 per hundred for library services? What do we get for that? Driving miles to the one branch, paying for DVD's, lack of substantial new purchases? It is time to give it up and consolidate with the Lake County Library system. I have been a faithful patron of the Hammond Library for decades. My fidelity evaporated when they closed the branches and reduced purchases, and began to charge for some services.
I get my books from LCPL now because they have a superior collection, many more new purchases and the Munster branch is closer to my home than is Hammond main. Unfortunately, because a Hammond resident can only get a limited card, I not able to take advantage of their FREE and updated audio/video collections, or their book downloads.
Send my 22/100 to the county where I can take advantage of a first class library system,. I am sick of being treated as a 2nd class citizen in re library services.
My only concern would be to ensure that employees would remain once Main was absorbed by the LCPL

  4. As I responded below
:Very selective use of facts, several days before the primary, Howey et al had Murdock beating Lugar 48-38 :http://www.depauw.edu/news-media/latest-news/details/28535/.
Keep deluding yourself if it makes your feel better.
The above mentioned pollsters documented a large slide in Lugar support during the last days of the campaign, just as it now documents Mourdock's thankful slip into oblivion
Also, most respected poll takers discredit the Rasmussen poll, it is thought that it has a Repub bias which make its results about 4% tilted to the Rep candiate

  6. HOW MANY TIMES WILL YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE THIS MISTAKE. SOUTH CALUMET AVE IS NOT EAST HAMMOND!!!!!!!

  7. I live on near Hohman and 174th and I always thought I lived on the southwest (not southeast)side of town. So, by some trick, my neighborhood which I thought bordered IL now actually borders Gary/Black Oak. Well, maybe so, because as Tim S. notes the crime rates make the area seem like Hessville.

  8. Well, if the funding comes from the county, let them give Hammond's share to LCPL, and close the main library, and join the LCPL system. Let the Hammond residents have total access to a Quality library. Half of the city probably lives closer to the LCPL branches than to the Main. Very few new books, fees for DVD rentals, and the opportunity to do research among the homeless who seem to be the major patrons of the library are strong arguments for closing the city library and joining the Lake County system. They sure don't seem to have problems with money

  9. I would definitely take advantage of the trail, but lets get our priorities straight. Hammond closed two library branches, and now has a second class library because of funding issues.
