    But sure....it was the high taxes that caused all that growth. Because, you know, correlation equals causation.

  5. All that said, Gary schools still receive nearly twice the amount of money per pupil as compared to other districts in the area. The answer would not be to send more money to this district then, would it?

  6. Tom Philpot - what a great person to emulate and look up to. His surrender wasn't necessary until April 3rd, yet he turned himself a full two weeks early!

    We should keep this in mind next time we vote. Be sure to continue pulling the straight "D" ticket to ensure we keep wonderful leaders like Philpot in charge of this exemplary county of ours. The rest of the state should be jealous that our citizens are this educated and well-informed.

  8. Once you leave Lake County, it's hard to come back. You start to realize what a crappy area it really is.

    The line is blurred between having a "loser" mindset and a "realistic" mindset. People who think this area is going to make some valiant comeback are delusional, especially when Hammond/Gary seem to think their resurgence is going to be based on museums and flower pots.

    Wasn't that always one of your proposed solutions to deal with overcrowding at Lake Central, Mill? "Bricks and Mortar?"

    Back to the topic...Purdue Cal was never really designed as a "live-in" campus until relatively recently. I know gas prices have risen, but that area isn't that conducive/attractive for 9000 students to live around; driving should be expected if you sign up for classes there.
