  1. By the way, how does my wearing a helmet when I ride thru Portage make the city safer?

  2. Did you read the whole article? Yes they should have applied for a permit but to stop them for not wearing a helmet, which really did happen folks even the cops admit they did it, is either harassment or a really stupid police dept. When you are resposible for law enforcement it's a good idea to know the law. Chief of police in any town is a quasi-political position. I can't believe he gave the order to pull those bikers over and issue helmet tickets knowing the political ramifications. Probably some lower guys thought they were smart and it blew up. If a cop pulled you over in your car and said he was going to ticket you for not wearing a helmet what would be your response? It's legally the same thing. In Indiana only those under 18 or those on a learner permit must wear helmets. There were some of those legitimate tickets issued in the same couple days which is why you'll hear different numbers on who got ticketed. We members of Abate were on this from the start and the Portage helmet law is history but they most certainly did hand those idividual Invaders, if not the club, a nice key to a shiny countersuit.

  3. Uh, we were talking about helmets. But since you brought it up the Invaders have never had a club house in PC. They have met at members' homes, and thru the years "adopted " a couple bars, but those bars were open to the public as well. This is all about Portage trying to put on a show and they stepped right into the manure.

  4. So Big Cheif Troy says he was just tryiong to make the city safer? A motorcyclist wearing or not wearing a helmet may make that person safer or not but doesn" save a city. But Big Cheif Troy is obviously TOO DUMB to know the laws he is supposed to be enforcing. Ooops. He just handed the Invaders a nice offer to countersue Portage for illeagal harassment. Bet mayor Snyder is really happy with his guy now.

  5. If the Portage Police are trying to enforce their own helmet law that is ilegal and if anyone actually received a citation that should be shown to Abate legal services. Yes the cops everywhere are pulling bikers over checking for the endorsment. This is because Indiana has experienced a rise in motorcycle fatalities and an awfully high percentage of those had no endorsement. People who ride without getting licensed are CHEATING! Amd like anything else the cheaters hurt the rest of us. Their fatalities count like ours and lead the insurance companies and lawmakers to try to fing new ways to shut us all down.

  6. It is sad to lose another rider. Motorcycle deaths are already up over 9 percent from last year thanks to our weather mostly. What bothers me is the Times using an old mug shot. Anyone else dies and there is either no pic or the usual 10 year old pic provided by a relative. This is very bad journalism, as if the Times ever cared about that, and just hurtful to his family. He wasn't arrested, Times editors, he was killed! No pic at all is better than a mug shot.

  7. I agree. Other than a promotion for Nick Pappas what's the story? And what's with Pappas saying "these kind oif things" over and over? What does he mean? The police say so far no laws broken. And if Pappas is such a great expert what did he see/know at Penn State? If this turns into nothing will the Times devote a front page to giving Mr Crutchfield his reputation back?
