1) Why would you cut out legumes? Beans are a source of starch and soluble fiber. Soluble fiber removes cholesterol from your blood stream because bile is made from cholesterol, and if you consume fat and bile is released, it gets bound to solube fiber and literally removed in the fecal matter. Beans also count as vegetarian protein, ie no cholesterol and no fat.
2) Why would you cut out dairy? Dairy is literally what people supplement with in post workout shakes from processed sources of dairy (whey and casein). Why not just eat the actual glass of skim milk? Easy source of calcium, which has been shown to reduce blood pressure, maintain blood/bone/heart/muscle health, and decrease colon cancer.
3) Why cut out fruit? Assuming you're not eating more than 2-3 servings a day, the sugar from fruit is not a significant quantity when you consider the benefits of the fiber and phytonutrients in fruit, which haven't even been thoroughly researched yet. Can't harm? Fiber reduces risk of colon cancer.
4) increase red meat? Why? Red meat increases colon cancer and pancreatic cancer risk. This is because it creates nitrosamines in your gut, and people who eat red meat don't eat as many vegetables to move the nitrosamines out. Therefore, they ferment against your intestinal epithelium and create cancer.
5) I can create a study that shows any diet with reduced calorie intake compared to what was being done before to promote a diet that I"m going to make money off of and sell a book. Grats you've been had.
6) Dietary saturated fat and CHD and CVD. Read the fine print--what does it say about dietary saturated fat and LDL cholesterol? What about excess energy in general and LDL cholesterol? Yea, epidemiologically, perhaps CHD and CVD aren't affected, but these are diseases with many factors in play, not just saturated fat. Physicaly inactivity controlled for?
7) So please paleo people, go to school and stop reading magazines.
