  1. When did a house fire become a major fire? BP burns, that is major. When a city block burns down, that is major. Maybe even the 1 building in Whiting on fire is "major", but an unoccupied house in Hammond? Is reporter trying to connect the Whiting fire and the Hammond fire because they occurred within 12 hours of each other? Maybe both fires were suspicious? Hilarious attempt to gather interest in a non-newsworthy story, unless you want to talk about the frozen water lines. Isn't there a way to PM fire hydrants to prevent a frozen fire plug? If it is frozen, someone ain't doing a good job, now that is newsworthy.

  2. I think reporter meant 12 pallets weighing 2000 pounds each loaded with 55# bags. That is the only thing that makes sense to me, but a reporter never having worked in industry probably got confused.

  3. I moved out of Hammond because of the schools, Hammond is in a death spiral. 13,000 kids and 2,000 are special needs? Seems like they get extra funding from the government to help them. So identify kids early as special needs and get more money from government. It is a scam. And the kids are the ones hurt, they are pawns in the money grab.

  4. I work in a union plant. I am salaried, was union member for a number of years, I seem to remember that the dues when I was a member was 2 hours per month. After I moved into management, the dues paying structure changed and I remember guys complaining about it. I thought it was said that if you worked overtime you payed more. Not too sure, but Teamsters represent the hourly folk. One guy told me last week that when the contract expires in September he is not going to pay dues anymore. I asked why, his reply, "They don't do anything for me." Once that starts, I am sure more people will opt out. This could get very interesting.

  5. Mrvan has a growing Hispanic population in his district and he is willing to turn a blind eye to the laws of the land to stay in power. He "might" read these, but he will ignore, he is like many of our mis-representatives, he will circumvent all laws to stay in power. As long as we keep voting all of the jokes in, joke is on us. Or should I say yoke is on us.

  6. Not sure about that record amount of drugs or guns, what was the old record? Was it a record for Chgo Heights? 15th street? 896 eight balls, what do they cost these days? 125? So about 100,000 dolllars worth
