  2. It's good to know ECFD is keeping watch in real time. Scenarios where FD is not involved and the patient has some mental status changes, the only safe keeping and reporting party of indiscretions are the medics themselves. Character and Integrity involves doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

  3. The EMT training for Paramedic certification would be allowed to do this during the preceptorship portion of the 1000 hours of training. That sounds like what your describing. But there are SOPs just to get into Paramedic training! It takes common sense or a few hours to figure out and respect the scope of practice.

  4. How familiar were you with the care and attitude prior? Political agenda should never play in the role of rendering care. The focus is the scope of practice. Politics may or may not keep people employed. Protocol along with being prudent keeps people safe.

  6. You both may very well be versed in the FD, but this is EMS. Fire suppression has made enough progress to spoil the victor. But there is no doubt that manifestation of chronic conditions such as kidney failure secondary to hypertension, or diabetes type II related to obesity is a killer and money maker (depending on which side you're on) most importantly: it's rampant. FD does not charge, stay with me because we're not talking about FD. 5,211 times last year was an invoice generated for payment by EMS. Facts? Fact is our population is getting older and sicker, calls to EMS increase, EMS charges for those calls. Do you fine tune it or give it up?

  9. Party? How would you like have been at that party where firemen couldn't hold on to a victim because her burning skin was sloughing off as they transfered her to the medics. Idle time? Negative. How about briefing from such calls. Trucks, hydrants and street routes need to be current and operational. Mind, body and communications need to be sharp. Fail once and comments will surely be different.

  10. It's very confusing to eliminate a revenue generating department in these economical times, very confusing. The ordinance was one obstacle that could've been dealt with easily. Alternative budget proposals were offered. There are opportunities in securing contracts with dialysis centers or patients in need of transportation. Ameristar Casino employ medics from EMS on an outdated contract. Very capable medics educated in accounting, critical or advanced paramedicine even nursing were of great resources that went untapped. I just don't get it.
