Gary is a cesspool of crime and corruption that will take down everything around it if nothing is done to protect the good communities. Gary IS A LOST CAUSE so save what is still good and hope for the best.
So sad.
If Lake County approves a 2 or 3% County income Tax, we can expect a mass exodus of middle class and upper class folks followed by an infiltration of people looking to rent the homes they abandon.
Detroit, Indiana is not too far from our future.
Who in their right mind would move anywhere near Gary and pay 2% or 3% of their income to a poorly run county for the privilege to live here????
In 8 or 12 years when the democrats from Gary control the elections in all these towns and subsequently control governer and US senate elections, they can look back and thank this group of legislators that took away the hopes of many Lake County people.
What a shame for the entire region. Time for all those living north of US 30 to head for the hills and get out of the state. The democrats in Indianapolis must be jumping for joy salvating at the power they will have.
We all can use this as a catalyst to move forward with good government or we can become the next Detroit. Gary is already there and that scum pond will bring us all the way down if we do not fight back. Go Griffith!!!!
This is more than a fight for Griffith. It is a fight for all of Northwest Indiana. Please stay strong.
I have an idea for Griffith. I thought I read a while back that the town bought the Griffith Golf Course on Cline Ave. It is a stone's throw from I 80-94. That would make a great location for a regional trauma center. One of the NWI legistators should propose this.
After decades of corruption Gary has earned that reputation. The voters of Gary have put Lake County on a dowwnward path by controlling Lake County elections for decades by ignorantly electing buffons to County office, I.E. George Van Til et al.
This column is pure trash BASED ON LIES. Partisan political writing is fine in opinion peices. However, partisan politcal writing based on a distortion of facts is unacceptable and yellow journalism.
I do not know what rock the Times dug this James character from, but they ought to put him back where they found him. I personally will consider cancelling my subscription soon if this fool is allowed to continue to have NON-FACTUAL columns printed. I do not want one penny of my money to go towards this guy's salary.
He said Calumet Township Assessor Jacqueline Collins in Gary, who received $10,000 in addition to her base salary of $52,726, now has a higher salary than he does.
Once again, Gary and Calumet Township fleece others to support their bad habits. What the article doesn't state is that the Calumet Township assessor would not have to process 1900 appeals if they did their job right in the first place. So 10k goes to the worst performing township and 16k is left for all the rest??? Something ain't right here.
Did I just read this correctly??? WOW!!!
With all of Gary's problems, why in the world would the Mayor stoop to such ignorant rhetoric? I used to be a fan of hers for trying to help a dying city. Now I am dumbfounded by that statement and left wondering if the best thing for Lake County IS for Gary to go under and the state take them over.
She probably ticked off a few people in Indianapolis with this stupid statement. Bye Bye Casino, Bye Bye airport, And, Bye bye Gary. what a shame.
