  1. A 46-year-old Crown Point man faces preliminary charges of intimidation today, after a Christmas night incident in his Liberty Park neighborhood that brought out the county SWAT team for 6 and a half hours. Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land says officers went to a house in the 300 block of Maple St. about an irate man inside the house threatening to shoot family members if they returned to the residence. The suspect also claimed to have already shot a surrounding neighbor, but that report turned out to be false. Police say the man was reportedly upset, thinking that his neighbor allegedly stole something from him. SWAT team members finally got into the house at about 2:30 this morning. and found the man hiding in a bathroom with his two dogs. Chief Land says no one, either family members nor police, were hurt.
