  1. As I stated before, the Politicians are prioritizing which "pet projects" are going to be funded first. All of which will NOT benefit the people of Lake County, but instead will only make the Politicians richer, with the kickbacks and all. Further, once this tax gets rolling, although the State says 1% is enough to bring in the money to operate, that's not enough for the Politicians and their pocketbooks, they already want to increase it before it's even put into effect. With Obama failing to save the social security tax breaks at the beginning of the year (costing everyone another 2%), now Lake County wants to take more that needed to operate. Plan on signing your paychecks over when you get them so the Politicians can fund their "pet projects" and their pocketbooks, all at everyone else's expense, NOT THEIRS!! Go ahead Lake County voters, re-elect them. I didn't vote for 90+% of them that are in office now, but they're taking my money just the same. You get what you ask for, so go ahead and re-elect them, but don't B*T*H about them later, you asked for it. The Democrats are following the Party Line, just like OBAMA was/is striving for, a socialist government works best for them.

  3. If our leaders downstate have determined that 1% is enough to run things (I would imagine that's why the 1% cap that's been proposed), then why kick it to 3% except for corrupt dealings? If Lake County enacts the 1% income tax, how much money does that free up to come back home from downstate that's been held in property tax levies? I believe, if they get the extra money they are looking for, it will not be used for the benefit of the taxpayers of Lake County; I see it all getting "sucked up" by the black hole that we call GARY. I don't know about the rest of you, but I get tired of seeing all my tax money going to an area that refuses to help itself!! They have already changed the 1% income tax provision for Lake County. Instead of the money going for property tax relief, they are now allowing the Lake County politicians decide how to spend most of the money (already taking money away from the taxpayers, and the intended use of the 1% tax). Does anyone really see any good coming from this if they keep changing it? I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't afford to keep losing money out of my paycheck to give to politicians to spend as they see fit, and not for it's intended purpose. If Lake County raises it to 3% now, just as it's being enacted, where's the limit? With the current Lake County politicians, are we going to get to the point that we just sign our paychecks over to them, in the form of an income tax so that their "discretionary" funds for their "pet projects" never run out?

  4. Believe it or not, the kids have more constitutional protection than you might believe, that is why U\Indiana done away with the state law pertaining to curfews and violations: It violated the kids constitutional rights. IMAGINE THAT!

Unless the schools are private schools, and the terms are spelled out for admissions to the schools, the drug testing is not legal. All schools, unless private of course, are public schools and therefore your constitutional guarantees still apply.

Your argument that there won't be any successful lawsuits is plain B.S. The schools are allowed to adopt certain policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff, as long as it does not violate constitutional protections. Regardless of whether or not you state that they will or will not be punished for the drug test, the fact remains that you CANNOT make it mandatory for them to participate under NORMAL conditions.

If it is a requirement for them to participate in extracurricular activities, that is something completely different.

  5. Mr. Big Head stated: "Lawsuits over what?"
How about a federal civil rights violation? What happened to the 4th Ammendment to the Constitution which states:

    AMENDMENT IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I see nothing but lawsuits coming out of this, if he moves forward!!!
