  1. Integrity is best defined as doing the right thing when no one is watching. Yet, another black eye on Portage. Yes, we need leaders and people of influence. It's a shame their is a lack of ethics and people doing the right thing. People, vote with your pocket book - don;t patronize a business that treats it workers like a "sweat shop".

  2. I am ashamed to be a product of the Portage Twp. School system....Portage, you have a ling way to go. Notre Dame, under the direction of Fr. Hesburgh, looked a model institutions to pattern Notre Dame. The selected Princeton. I'd suggest you look at the top school n the state and model your actions, because the only thing you are good at is alienating the citizenry.

  3. This is just another attempt to control situations and to exert power. When you bog people down in "red tape" they will become frustrated, or decide it's not worth the effort. One of the golden rules of public speaking is o "know your audience". I give the Portage Twp. School Board an "F" and suggest they put citizens first.

  4. Since when is public broadcasting about making money? The TV station receives money from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB), and yes there have been cuts, but it is enough to pay for programs carried, The station also has other revenue streams, unlike commercial TV: grants; membership, underwrtiing, etc.- what we have here, though, is greed. I hear that it is important to get Illinois viewers. So basically it is going into the territory of WTTW and WYCC who pay a much larger price for programming, but then we hear how important it is to have a nightly news program which is nothing more that consumer video and reading the Times or Post.

In my professional opinion, having been in public broadcasting for most of my 30 years in media, it would be a better opportunity to transfer control to Purdue Calumet, which has a communication arts program, to allow the department to not only train students, not just from PUC, and professionals but to create "local" programming.

Lakeshore has branched out into areas that do not make sense - they bought production trucks for remotes when they were renting a a very cheap rate, thinking that Chicago would get the Olympics and they would be in the $ - where did that get them.

Bottom line folks, it's not about community service - its about ego and greed,

  7. I served as a crew member on these ships a few years ago. The Santa Maria sank off of Hispanola. It was the biggest of the three, but not well liked by Columbus. He captained the Nina - the smallest of the ships.

  8. What a joke. I worked at Lakeshore and was often told "Nothing exists north of 61st Ave." It's all about money - if the Knight Foundation didn't contribute any $ - do you think this would airing? Take a look at Lakeshore's EEO and then let me know your thoughts about racism.
