  1. The town of Wanatah should do the same. We have two maintenance men, both superintends, both making between $60,000 To $70,000 a year all benefits paid. All physical work contracted out. 2% to 5% raises every year, even when no other town was giving out raises because of the economy. Our town board president is one of those 60 to 70,000 a year superintends. Last few salary ordinances were across the board raises, which means the councilmen along with the employees received raises. We have A state-of-the-art automatic, award winning pump house that requires little work. I haven’t seen water come out of the fire hydrant in my neighborhood for years.
Wake up Wanatah, I think they are about to raise your water bills because the board doesn’t do the due-diligence that should be done before every decision is reached.

  2. You make some good points, bobsr, lets also mention, one of the biggest problems the republicans want, deregulation, what if they deregulated the banks more, your money wouldn’t be safe anywhere, unless you are like Mitt Romney and hide in a Swiss bank, that’s the best candidate they could come up with?

  3. What a shock to pick up the paper and read of his passing. I always looked forward to reading his column. With newspapers in decline, columns like his help keep readers. there is so much corruption in government, we need more reporters like him. I always felt, that he didn’t discriminate against anyone. I feel newspapers should put more investigative reporters on their staff, for local corruption in politics. It will be hard to replace one like him. My deepest sympathy to his family.

  4. What else can we lease out to a foreign company for 75 years that pay billions that last until they leave office. Yes Indiana is in good shape now, how many years before this bite us. I don’t call this good government, it’s pulling the wool over the citizens eyes.
    Watch out Purdue.

  5. I agree with you Mr. Wieland. Leasing the toll road for 75 years and having all of it spent just as you are leaving office, has a odor to it. Getting a job at Purdue when he appointed most of the trustees also smells. The cline avenue bridge issue. What happened that this bridge only lasted a few years, someone should be held accountable. Why should we have to pay for rebuilding it again, and what is taking so long. While there is no talk of it yet, it will be done.

  6. The SBOA is a joke, Governments, county, cities, or town can do almost whatever they want, either give the SBOA power in order to make the different governments comply or save the taxpayers a lot of money and abolish the agency. Look your city, town or county up and see how many violations they have against them. Same with the public access.

  7. Governor Daniels leased the toll road out for 75 years for billions of dollars. Which, as he is leaving office is all gone. Failed to get the cline avenue bridge replaced, and find out what went wrong, that it didn’t lasts vary long. Someone must be held accountable here, I feel sorry for the next governor, what can he lease for billions for 75 years, so he can spend it in four or eight years.

  8. Come to little Wanatah In. pop. Just over 1000. Two maintenance workers, both superintends, making $60,000 and $67,000 a year. Free health care, pension, cell phone, 10 sick days, and three more holidays than federal gov. workers. We don’t own a backhoe, all underground work contracted out, don’t weld, contracted out, and contract out painting parking lines.
Board president is one of these superintends, town people keep reelecting him.
