  1. The media has blown this out of proportion and though this is the only information being digested by the populace... think for a minute... The man threatened his wife and family. He threatened to shoot up a school. He has abused her for years and has used intimidation and threats against her loved ones to keep her with him. Show some compassion. I find it amazing that people are pointing at her as being vindictive and wanting him out and using this as a way to do it. FEAR is a factor! Without the knowledge of what has been occurring in this home people really need to realize that the media sensationalism has made this into front page news and has this traveling the country with wild rumors and assumptions being made. Yes, he said things in anger. Yes, he threatened his wife. Yes, he threatened to shoot up a school. Yes, he had the capability. Yes, he belongs to a motorcycle club. Yes, he has a history of violence - though no arrests for it. How can people reading a newspaper article, watching a news report, not realize that regardless of the "intent" that the only thing this woman could do was report what had been said and what was happening. Apparently, she had some thought that he may be capable of carrying out this threat. And... just FYI, she did not spend the same night in the house with him after he threatened to burn her alive. She got help (finally) and was safe. She did the right thing. Quit prosecuting the victim. This is precisely why many abused people stay in abusive relationships because they end up being blamed and losing everything because they finally stood up. There is much more to this story... there are NUMEROUS misquotes and statements taken out of context. The incidents that led to this had actually taken place from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning. Apparently, that was left out of many reports. He has been charged with 4 counts of intimidation (felony), 1 count domestic violence (misdemeanor) and 2 counts of resisting arrest (misdemeanor)--- You can look it up on the Lake County Docket sheets... for those that seemed to think it was all a flimflam to get him out of the house... get a grip...

  2. There's a list of board members at http://www.campagnaacademy.org/about-Board.asp... you could probably contact the CEO Elena Dwyre for more info on who's who... :-)

  3. No, I don't think that is necessary... just maybe do a little research before you say something that puts your foot in your mouth? :-)

  4. Statistically charter schools do just as well or better on standardized tests, not all of them are failing. The issues at Campagna Charter School were multifaceted and with many students failing at other schools in the area it provided a place for many to go to learn and graduate. Divide 54 by 4... small classes... therefore, it shouldn't be surprising that 10are graduating... but it is probably a mute point. Many of the students at Campagna were/are students from area schools as well as residential adolescents that are in placement for a multitude of reasons. The failing scores, not just at Campagna, but at many of the schools has to do with lack of interest on the part of the students, parents/guardians, and the community. Our answer is throw money at the problem and if that doesn't work... fire everyone and start fresh. Remember too... People who chose education as a profession are often treated as babysitters, caregivers, and expected to be surrogate parents. Unfortunately, while the world seems to think that teachers merely work 9-10 months a year, teachers spend way beyond 40 hours working toward educating children/adolescents. Teachers spend their own time (unpaid) working on lesson plans that will stimulate students, grading papers, continuing their education and being active members of their own communities. Mandatory tutoring doesn't help if students aren't able to be at the school after hours or before... TRANSPORTATION costs money that most schools are losing. (Along with many other programs that could help students stay engaged in their education). Just to clarify... do the math... divide a teacher's salary (start with a beginning teacher) by 26 paydays and then by 80 hours... and guess what.... many starting teachers are making $10-15 per hour and have thousands of dollars in student loans... as well as bills to pay just to live. Teachers also spend their own money on classroom decor, supplies, etc. Teacher turnover is in the range of 5 years... people quit because they feel they are under-appreciated and the pay sucks. Ok... so we all know... teachers don't really teach for June, July, and August... or the money... so why do they do it??? To have a positive impact on ONE student... the ONE student who really needs them. Remember those teachers who had an impact on you???

Campagna is a multifacted organization, the school being a separate entity than the "agency" formerly known as Hoosier Boys' Town. The clinical side will stay... only the school is closing at the end of the week.

As for the question on the board, though not directed to me I will quickly address. The board of Campagna Inc is not the same as a school board. The members come from varied walks of life, some educators and business people. There is a list on the website at http://www.campagnaacademy.org/about-Board.asp. I'm sure if you contacted Elena Dwyre (CEO) she could fill you in on more about the current board.

  5. To "Just Ducky"... apparently you do not know much about the former "Hoosier Boys' Town" maybe you should read more about the founder Monsignor Michael Campagna, a Catholic Priest of the Gary Diocese with a parish in East Chicago, Indiana, who was originally from ITALY not MEXICO or any other SPANISH speaking country. The campus was renamed in HIS HONOR for starting the program. You can read more at http://www.campagnaacademy.org/about-History.asp
