  1. Its funny how bitter "words" seems to be on any forum that involves FD. It is a shame that one person could have so much hate for individuals he knows little about. Your hilarious, cause who do you think is going to save your butt when he bouce off the road after a car accident, or have a massive MI from all this hot air you keep spouting, oh yeah it is going to be those 'precious EMTs/Paramedics and Firemen". Nice editorial Mr. Brown.

  2. Well it's just as bad when the politicians wait until right after elections to make big decisions cuts. They show right before elections they back the Civil Services and then when it comes time to really be behind them, they show how much of a joke that was. Ask the mayor how many times he has been down to the fire house to really understand what it is that these guys do and what they need before they start making cuts. As for the genius who thinks he knows everything (Bkens01), who seems to think that Taylor is an awesome chief, what is his qualifications and training that makes him so great? What is he doing about the moral of his department while these guys worry about the future of their jobs and the safety of the residents that they have been taking care of so long. Lets talk about the "new" vehicles- the ambulances were replacing outdated ambulances that needed constant repair that cost the city and are demos not new rigs. The rescue truck wasn't wanted from the FD from the very beginning, they needed a new engine and because the city didn't want to make the necessary costs to keep its residents safe but instead thought that new garbage trucks were more necessary. The last "new" FD engine is a DEMO as well, which came with no equipment or shelves, and now the FD is having to pull stuff off decommisioned equipment to stock this thing. And since they took the Ambulance away from Station 1 this is being ran as an overpriced ALS chase vehicle. If money is so tight in the city, the mayor, council and department heads should have not received raises, new FD trucks, new PD cars and new garbage trucks should not have been bought until expenses have been straightened out. I don't know about you but I do not spend extra money on new clothes if the old ones are getting me by until all the bills are paid. Not that hard to figure out. Maybe if we could get someone in there that can handle budgeting the city "checkbook". Maybe that is where the whole problem lies. Just so you know as well Bkens, there is no pitty party here, just know the reality that if we are going to start comparing ourselves to East Chicago and Gary when it comes to the ambulancce service, then why not compare what the residents are going to have to do when they call 911 and can not get an ambulance to their house because the mayor keeps dewindling the number of ambulances down. Bkens you want to talk about me not being a resident, my question to you is when are you going to wake up to reality about the Fire Chief. The mayor better wake up about his choices for department heads before he ruins his career in politics. I mean he already had to replace the Chief of Police. Maybe he should get a consultant about making department head choices and running a city.....

  3. Well words, just because I am a wife of a fireman doesn't make me less a resident. My children live here, my taxes pay the samethings your does, so my opioion doesn't go away because I am a fireman's wife. Solutions you ask, how bout understanding why they feel the fire department is so over budgeted? Well this is the only city I know that has a service in which brings in revenues and they go into a general fund, why arent they going back into the service that does the servicing? And how about the police officers? They seem to have money for everything they need but yet no cuts? Why not have them park their cars when they are off duty instead of driving around kingdom come at the taxpayers expense? How bout explaining why we are so worried about curbs and ramps that they plan on spending tons of money when you have a FD that is being cut? I mean let me ask you this words what you going to do when your insurance premiums increase because they decided to reduce the services of the FD? You going to be giving a fireman's wife grief then.

  4. I disagree to some degree their 'Trouble', Kerr is showing just as much loyalty to his brothers/sister on the FD as his chief. Have they forgot that if the FD were to fall apart, and for you residents what I mean is if your wonderful mayor decides to go Private with the ambulance service it wont be too long, before they start talking volunteer FD, that the officers will not have jobs as well. And just so you know residents, mayor and his moronic counsel has actually already brought up the word "volunteer" Fd to a neighbor of mine. I am absolutely appauled by all of this to be honest. I mean what is the mayor thinking. Or can I say IS he thinking? First lets ask the mayor why is it that this towns revenues for the ambulance go into a 'general" fund. Why does each department not have an individual budget in which they have to work under and if they go over they dont get anymore funding. Not to pick on the police because that is a department we need too, but rumors have it that they just got a bunch of new cars, who flipped that bill if we are hurting so bad. And lets talk about this wonderful dispatch that can't dispatch to the right address on a call anyways, why not take from their budget I mean I am sure we can hire more effective ones for a cheapier price the way they are going. How bout this has a single one of the mayors puppets taking a cut in their pay or bonus since we started 'slashing' FD's future. I mean heck we are more worried about making sure that the garbage men don't have to lift the garbage cans like they have for years then whether when we call 911 that someone come if we are having a medical emergency. Mayor you need a little education on the body. If you are having a MI or a stroke, or even in a trauma like a car accident, answer me how it is that those hard working firemen/woman are going to get you to the ER so that we can get you into Cath Lab, surgery, ect. I know, you expect them to do a 'fireman's carry all the way to the hospital'. And for the officers of the department to sit there and tell me that they have not reduced the service to me and my fellow residents, is nothing close to the truth. Residents ask your fire chief how it is that you are suppose to get to the hospital with one ambulance down and two ambulances out on other calls. Oh yes its this ALS fire engine that is suppose to come to the rescue and help, well let me tell you if you are like me and in another district that station 1 I will tell you that is not true. Tell them Chief how that ALS engine is not responding to areas outside station 1's area. That is going to be real effective when a kid in my area is involved in a trauma and you send me the BLS Engine with two guys manning it. Well don't worry the CHief says cause we can call another city, like Lake Station who we could be possibly backing up. SO by the time your dispatch realizes that both ambulances in Hobart are out and then realizes that Lake Stations Ambulances are out, they may figure out who to get to us, if of course they can get the address right. Wake up residents, its time to make a loud stand to this fire administration and city counsel. Otherwise you might want to start walking now to the hospital!

  5. Now that you ran your mouth, lets let an educated taxpayer speak. I am a resident of Hobart, I am a wife of a Hobart Fireman, and in the past I worked for a Private Ambulance Service. So lets talk. First, although Tom Castle may not live this area, it doesnt mean he does not care. Yes it is no secret that some of the guys do not live in this area, but it is also not required. Look at any FD these days, not one of them has all their staff as residents. Second, you should be ashamed to belittle the Hobart fire guys and say that they do nothing but wash their cars and cook out. I guess you dont allow people to eat who have been at work for a 24 hour period. Do I sense a slight jealousy that you have yet to make it on a fire department and you have had to settle for a private service? Second topic, since I was known to be one of those so called ambulances waiting on 61st, around speedway, and around the corner from Mary's, just cause an ambulance is stocked with two bodies and a running engine that doesn't make you effective care in my eyes. And before you try that belittling stuff with me, no I did just fine on the ambulance, the difference between you and me is I didn't stop their I furthered my education and now are taking patients from you and doing the longer care in one of the local ERs as a nurse. I was their when Merriville went Private, and man was that a joke. The first day out, their was an accident right in front of the Merriville Private station and is was such a mess that crews were running into the station to get proper equipment rather than taking it off their rigs cause it was missing. And we wont even mention the poor deceased police officer in Merriville. Not too mention how many times a BLS rig was sent on a call that 100% needed an ALS rig, and you knew that just by the description of the call. Private companies are about the profits not the care. Private companies hire anything with a pulse. And you cant say it aint true because i am been there side by side with some of them teaching them things they couldn't find in a book. Unlike the private services, you get training more than just what emt and paramedic school allowed to do before you get to just start taking care of a patient on your own. So Mr. or Mrs. Taxpayer, before you go running your mouth maybe you should research alittle and quit acting like everyone is not educated to your level. And I promise this wont be the last time you hear from me.
