Regardless of this tragic, horrible, situation, why does a person who breeds 'champion' show dogs live in a small ranch house on a small property with 13+ dogs? Why does she run a business out of her home and have absolutely no type of insurance whatsoever? I would think a 'champion' breeder would have insurance on her 'kennel' and her 'champion' dogs, as well as her grooming business.
Sheltielover says shame on us for calling her a BYB... well i think the evidence speaks for itself honestly, and she herself called her a 'hobby' breeder. I'm sure she loved and cared for her dogs and like any of us who love our pets like they are our children do...no one is saying she didn't. It's a sad situation overall, and one she will not get over for a long time. I pray her friends and family help her to get through it and that in the future if she continues 'breeding', she does things differently.
Cranki - although the timing of their question is poor and insensitive, i too wonder about many of these breeders who work out of their homes and have many dogs at any given time. I've seen the pictures on her FB page, and to me - she doesn't look like a professional breeder. Raising puppies in dirty clothesbaskets in your garage in a small little ranch house... makes me question her business. I know nothing about this woman, or her supposed 'kennel', but I can't fault someone for asking these questions, although the manner in which it was delivered was much too harsh. And to the person who said they can purchase a license to breed more for their 'hobby' - are you saying there should be no limits to the amount of dogs a person can keep in a small home 'kennel'? If so, then you know nothing about being a good breeder.
