  1. Implied consent
School dances and other events often fall under the definition of extracurricular activity which means that participation is voluntary and a privilege. Because students have
voluntarily chosen to attend a school dance, it can be argued that they have agreed to
submit to a Breathalyzer in exchange for admittance. Some schools explicitly state
this on the ticket for the event (which is the plan at CHS), making the student’s consent express rather than implied.

  2. School property. They can do what they want. When you enroll your children in school you are given a handbook of rules. If you don't like them, don't want to follow them, good luck finding a school without rules. Have you ever heard of drug sniffing dogs at schools? It happens, as well it should. Is that any different than a breathylizer? Don't like the rules for prom because afraid of getting "caught", don't go. Why is that so hard to understand?

  3. For those of you who do not agree....what other choices are there? Is the administration supposed to ignore the problem? Then there is an accident with deaths (either guilty people or innocent) and the school gets sued because they "knew of the situation" and did nothing? Can you imagine the outrage then? I can see the headlines...."school ignores drinking problem at school dances and innocent victims die due to drunk driving accident". "Why didn't the school DO something?" Well they are trying to do something now. Thank you and I hope other schools follow suit. Lake Central and now Chesterton. Who is next?

  4. I think most of you are missing the point and didn't read the article correctly. They aren't CHANGING their mascot, just trying to unify all the schools in their district to adopt the same mascot, ie. Indians. Sounds like their elementarys, and middle schools have their own mascots. Many schools in the area already have done that so what's the big deal? I personally find it odd when I go to a middle school game and they are called a different mascot name under which I know their high school mascot. Just doesn't sound right...almost like a step child!

  5. Do you really think BN is the only school recruiting? This has been going on for awhile and not just at BN even though they are the most obvious.

  6. And so what if the teachers were "jocks"? My daughter is a "jock", three sport athlete. She also is in the top 10 (not 10%), but top 10, in her class of over 500 students. I say "GO JOCKS"!!

  7. What's wrong with "jocks"? My daughter is a three sport athlete and is ranked 8th in her class of over 500 students. If "jocks" are in charge, GREAT!

  8. I think the wording is all wrong with the Chesterton girls 6th place finish. They did not "have to settle for the sixth place overall". They were seeded 16th overall. Yes, they finished first in the slower heat (key word is slower) but there were 15 other teams that had better times going into that race. So finishing 6th, getting to stand on the podium and receiving medals was by no means "settling". They exceeded expecatations, ran a heck of race and was REWARDED with 6th place. I don't think those girls think it was settling....

  9. Your last sentence is just too funny...hahahahahahah. Does it really matter if the whole football team's parents voted yes? What does that have to do with anything??? Short sighted people can only focus on one thing...the football field. I have no children who play football, but was a big supporter of the referendum. Wonder what my motives were?

Keep talking abab2982, you make perfect sense!! thanks!

  10. Well said abab2982. Lets find a "perfect" school where EVERYone is happy. Crazy conservative and parametric still would find fault.
