Okay, maybe I'm crazy, but if they are/were business partners, then part of the $400,000 she stole is hers. Yes, the $400k belonged to the company but depending on the number of partners and what percentage of the business each owns, then that may help explain the restitution the judge determined. I think what she did was implorable, but I'm trying to figure out the plea agreement in comparison to the movie ticket and coffee incidents.

There is no answer that will appease everyone. Parents also have to sign for the student handbook attesting that the student read and understood it. Before I signed my daughter's, I emailed a few questions to the Dean of Students at her school before either of us signed. Stupidity breeds stupidity. Had it been my child, I admit that I would be very uncomfortable with an administrator going through all information on their phone but if I signed and agreed to it, I would have to live with it. Hopefully students and parents will learn personal responsibility from this. It makes me feel unclean.

Fact check: Police Chief Smith graduated from Crown Point High School and also served with the USMC. I'm sure that with both Int. Chief Smith's and Officer Smoot's last names both beginning with SM that it probably threw the reporter off.

Other than his stint in the USMC, Interim Chief Smith is a lifelong resident of Cedar Lake. He was named the Indiana DARE officer of the year in 2006. Let's hope the town council keeps their appointment local.

How many heroin deaths does that make in Valpo so far this year? I don't care about the ethnicity, sex, hair color or religious beliefs of anyone.. I'm just asking about the heroin problem in NWI. Shouldn't that be of concern to everyone reading these comments?

Rather than chase all the off-topic ramblings.... do you all think that perhaps the triple digit temperatures added to the number of downed trees and poles? I am wondering if the light poles are more brittle from the extreme number of triple digit days and with these century old trees... is the ground more hard and dry so the trees werr more easily toppled??? Just really curious.
