  1. ahhh. That's a nice story. It's good that the meals on wheels volunteer went the extra mile to check on that lady. It speaks well of the volunteers that the lady KNEW they would find her. That is just heartwarming.

  2. I agree with you Citizen 1. POs are sometimes used as a form of harrassment. Judges really should use more discretion when they grant POs.

I know a guy who broke up with his girlfriend. A judge granted her an Emergency Protection Order for - get this - Her Stuff. There were no incidents of violence between the man and the girlfriend, but somehow, her stuff was supposedly in great peril. She showed up at this guys house with a u-haul, two cops, a moving crew, and a protection order that listed everything in this guy's house - everything. She had no proof of ownership. She just made up a list of stuff she wanted, and the judge signed it. The guy had to hire an attorney, and attend the court hearing to get all of his stuff back - which he did. But still....

  4. Derrek, I recently read a book called A Train In Winter. It is about 230 women from the French Resistance who were sent to Auschwitz. 49 of them survived. The heartbreaking stories these women told were much like Eva's - The long, crowded train ride - the lice and fleas - the starvation - the cruel, brutal guards - the filth and the cold. These French women would agree with Eva that "dying in Auschwitz was easy. Living was a full-time job."

But Derrek, those 49 French women who survived, THEY said the Jews had the worst treatment of all. They said the Nazis viewed the French Resistance as human enemies, but Jews were not viewed as human at all. So, all the insane operations without anesthesia and the medical experiments were done on Jews. The French were forced to assist the doctors. If the French refused to assist, they were shot dead. Some chose to die rather than assist the Nazi experiments. Some had to live with the nightmare of choosing life.

Bottom line: Everybody Suffered Horribly. Eva is unique because of her beautiful message to the kids - Her three lessons for life. That is why Eva is awesome.

    Locally (adverb)

Every journalist at The Times knows this. Someone should tell the Chamber of Commerce.

  6. I agree with Mill. Nobody should be thinking about money during a search and rescue operation.

I was there during the search for this teen. This is the outcome everyone was Hoping and Praying for. Everyone just wanted this young man to be found alive, uninjured, and reunited with his family.

At the time, I was thinking that it is comforting to know that if MY KID was missing on this beach, this many people would be out searching like this.

This is a very good outcome. The best possible outcome. There should never be any charge for this. Finding this teenager alive and well is priceless.

  7. I was at West Beach when they started searching for this kid. Everyone was ordered out of the water by the life guards. Life guards and conservation officers began desperately searching the water and the dunes for this teenager.

In the water, a life guard paddled the entire length of West Beach looking. Other life guards were running up to the tops of the dunes looking out into the water. All the people that had been orderd out of the water were looking out into the lake for any sign of a person in the water.

Then, they recruited the general public on the beach to help grid-search the water. It was amazing really. Complete strangers were standing together in a line that stretched from the shoreline out to the buoys holding hands, and slowly walking together through the water looking for this guy. Life guards were shouting directions to the people. The grid search covered the entire length of West Beach.

Meanwhile cops were racing up an down the beach in jeeps. Fire and Rescue boats were in the water. Dive Teams were there. It seemed like every emergency unit from all of Porter County was there - frantically looking for this person.

All I can say is that every effort was made by everybody to find this teenager.

  8. I want my Grandchildren to taste Lake Perch. I want them to swim in Lake Michigan without getting clubbed in the head by a giant carp. We take these things for granted. Future generations should be able to do the same. It's up to us to make that happen. Shame on us if we don't.

  9. OMG! Kitty's owners just picked her up, and took her home!!!!!

Their son saw a flyer on a light post, and said, "That's Meow! That's a picture of Meow!" Dad called the number on the flyer, and said the words I have been waiting to hear: "Hi, you have my cat." They just took her home! She had been missing for one month. They thought she was dead by now.

I am so glad that we put those flyers up. Now, I will go out and take them all down. I'm so happy!!! This is such a good day. :-)

  10. "Buncich urged animal owners to contact the Lake County Animal Shelter at (219) 769-7016 rather than letting animals run loose.

"We will assist them in finding good homes," he said."

Talk is cheap, Sheriff Buncich. Just last week, we took a lost cat into your shelter. She has no front claws, and she was starving and terrified. The Lake County Animal Shelter told us that they have no room for her. The Shelter Lady advised us to let the cat stay in our garage.

I reminded her that it was nearly 100 degrees outside, and much hotter in our garage. She said, and I quote, " It's better than nothing. We don't have any space for her here."

About the cat: We found her in the Waterford Subdivision across the street from Timothy Ball School, in Crown Point. She is about one year old. Black and Grey/Tan tabby with white paws and chest. Short hair, green eyes. Declawed front paws. NS tatoo in ear. Very Sweet personality.

We posted a flyer with her picture at Jewel Osco. We passed out flyers in the neighborhood. We posted flyers on telephone polls.

If anyone knows who is missing this poor kitty, please call 765-1649.

Please, help us find her home.
