My comment was directed to those who automatically assumed it was some low life Gary thug that was responsible for this innocent persons demise. When the story first broke, everybody jumped on the bash Gary bandwagon. I know Gary is a rough place. I was born and raised there. But my comments are to help people realize that the same evils exist in they're neighborhoods, city's and family's also. My apologies if anything I said sounds racist because that's never my intent.

I wonder if all the kind folks on this blog site that had all the typical Gary comments, are choking on they're own words? Doesn't seem to be committed by the drug dealer, welfare receiving thug that you people blame for every crime that takes place here. It was one of your own this time. So sad for the innocent women that was killed. My prayers to her family in this very sad time.

You refer to couple as trash, is that because they live in Gary? Because I didn't see the article make reference to either of them having past criminal records or that hey were without means to support themselves. Many women never report the abuse or the abuser because they are well aware of the failures of the justice system. And some women have a clouded view of what true love and affection really is. The attention from an abuser may be the only attention they ever receive. They stay hoping that things will someday get better until they are forced to leave the relationship in a casket. Abuses never stop, they only get worse. According to the article, I can see why it was so difficult for her to leave because it states that at he time of the incident the couple was living separately, but he was at the time, still living with her family. So, in order to break free from him, she would have to leave her family as well. The majority of us couldn't do that. We just make it sound easy and point a finger at the ones that for whatever reason couldn't leave. Take a look at yourself lakeshore before you pass further judgement.

The article only states what the accused is presenting in her defense. Nowhere does the article state that she should receive preferential treatment because of her accomplishments. Abuse always goes unrecognized until we get to this point. But your rant kinda sounds like you feel that she should have just continued with the abuse. The old " shut up and take it" adage. That's probable what you tell the women you abuse. I hate that a mans life was taken, and it's sad that this young lady might have to serve time for trying to stop the abuse. But he real victims are the children hat will possibly be left motherless and fatherless. We all have to do better and show more impathy, apathy, respect and intellect before we hit the send button on these blogs.

I personally am not in favor of the death penalty. I thinks it's kinda hypocritical to kill a person to show that killing is wrong. What does that make the person that pulls the switch, or injects the needle? Are they not murders themselves? Too many flaws in the justice system and no room for appeal process from the grave. Too many wrongfully convicted. But just so my main point isn't lost, this P.O.S deserves whatever he has coming, If he did get the death penalty, I sure as heck wouldn't be marching to save his life.

You are probably correct, So by your line of reasoning, the white guy that gets drunk everyday and beats his wife to death from Crown Point was probably a product of government hand outs also, RIGHT??????

I concede on that one, you are absolutely correct. She is the lowest form of a so called life. It just kills me when the race and culture cards are always played on these blogs as if the crime and determination of values stops at the Gary border. My point is that things have gotten bad across the country, not just in Gary. Thanks for your perspective.

To Pockc, I agree that a child that has positive interaction with both parents stand a better chance at a meaningful existence than a child from a single parent household. But the flip side of that is, even children from two parent households can deviate from a positive life course. Do your research, most serial killers are white, middle class males that are the product of two parent households. ( ie. John Wayne Gacy, Kenneth Bianchi, Jeffrey dahmer, Ed Gein ) I could go on for days, but I'm sure you get the picture. It's sad what's going on in Gary, but let's not pretend that the same things are happening across the country. James Eagan Holmes' ( Aaurora theatre shooting) was from a loving home. Mother is a registered nurse and dad's a degreed mathematician from Berkly and Stanford. We see how that turned out.

Thank you " Good Neighbor" so saying what many are afraid to say. It's obviously easier to follow the mass opinion of negativity, rather than support the positive. I agree with your views and comments. More of us should get involved instead of pointing a finger from a safe hiding place.

To " stillthinkhesguilty" Sorry for the update, but if you choose to bulldoze Gary, you should also clear merrillville as well. Merrillville is not that nice either. Just FYI.
