  1. Mark,

Are you really that stupid? I mean really ... do you have your tea party hot on a little too tight?

The vast majority of homes that were heated in the late 1800's were heated by coal. It wasn't until the mid 1930's that heating oil really started to take over.

What does the US Income tax have to do with petroleum usage and development?

  2. Why does he deserve any more respect than Bush?

Both morons that have led this country down the wrong path and supported corporatism over the welfare of the citizens.

  3. And how do you think the postal workers got from the post office to their route? I know in your day it was probably the pony express ......
February 14, 2013 1:23 am on Back in the day, postal workers didn't need to drive
  4. Woody, you become a bigger idiot with every one of your ideas.

A 9 hole golf course in a flood plain wouldn't hold a parking lot for an Indian Casino, let alone the actual Casino.
February 03, 2013 12:14 am on Griffith golf course should become tribal grounds
  5. Why not just add some bars, change the principals title to warden, and change recess to "exercise time in the yard".

  6. If Walmart moves to the Cabela's site, the current Walmart location will sit empty for years and kill off the shops that are local to it. The fast entire 165th St corridor will die a very quick and painful death. It will also kill whatever small chance Woodmar has of ever being developed.

Walmart definitely does want to sell groceries and does not have the space in its current location. The store is also the old style format and the move fits in with Walmarts modernization plans.

However, Walmart is going to do whats best for them with no concern of what is best for Hammond. McDermott Jr has been woefully ignorant of that fact when dealing with development in the past, and should remember that warning now. He won't and Walmart will end up with a tax break to locate in an area they already have a following.

The people on this list crack me up with their NW Indiana peasant mentality. Either wishing for a higher demographic retailer like Costco (is this where the Trader Joes talk comes again?) or lamenting why we have a high price Cabela's instead of something they can afford. Stupid thinking like this is exactly why NW Indiana is the most backwards thinking location.

  7. Mark, is that the sort of research that has won you elections? If thats the sort of research you have done, it really explains your pathetic election results.

Spain did not collapse due to Keynesian economic policy. Spain collapsed mainly due to a private banking sector that made too many bad loans and then had to be bailed out by the European Union to protect other EU banks. Their property bubble was even larger than the US one. The collapse in prices due to bad loans put exceptional pressure on regional governments that had to be bailed out by the Spanish National Govt. Up until 2008 Spain had a balanced budget, which is more than I can say for the US under any president in the last 70 years Republican or Democrat. Greece on the other hand did have a spending problem, as well as a huge tax evasion problem on both corporations and the population in general. It is said that more than 50% of their country evaded taxes.

Now lets get on to your research of tax reductions in the United States. Kennedy faced a recession and super high income tax rates that were caused by the US paying off it's debt for World War II and Korea. The rates were almost triple what the income tax rates in the US are now. Reagan used a reduction in rates to induce economic growth that was being stymied by high interest rates caused by Paul Volckers war on inflation at the Federal Reserve. It did encourage investment when interest rates were upwards of 20%.

Research better next time .... and you obviously have not read Keynes works, and how they have been grossly mis-used and mis-understood. I'm sure you also have trouble with Marx's works, Von Mises, and Hayeks.

  8. NW Indiana already has 5 Casinos (counting Majestic's 2 boats). How has that worked out for tourism? Are all of our hotels booked beyond capacity?

While I do think it is fair of McDermott to protect Hammond's revenue stream, he also just threw Horseshoe under the bus (boat??). Another new Casino (and no Horseshoe could not get the license without selling the boat) in Hammond would definitely impact revenue from Horseshoe and would put NW Indiana's existing boats under further strain.
December 03, 2012 4:49 am on McDermott's casino proposal is no mere pipe dream
  9. Joey,

Where did I say one word about being in favor of illegal immigration? Not one single word.

Joanne's comments never mention illegal immigrants either. Yet she is against our immigration laws.

We need MORE legal immigration with higher quotas that would significantly lower illegal immigration. In addition it would help solve some of the demographic problems that our country will be facing in the near future. Seeing that our birthrate is at a post war low.
