  1. Why do people assume that anyone who defends the mayor or the city of Hammond must be on the payroll or somehow associated with the mayor? I have lived here over 20 years so I think I have a right to state my opinions about the city/mayor. I have met the mayor before,but i do not know him or work for him...and I still think he is a good mayor!
    Dutches, too bad you can't sell your house, I certainly don't want you as my neighbor!

  2. Really?! You are going to blame a bank robbery on the mayor!?! So if the police dept. was fully staffed 24/7 there would be no crime and no officers would ever get injured? Guess there are never any bank robberies in other cities! Absolutely no link between this incident and the mayor!
    Also, mrblatentlyobvious, the suspects were arrested at a different place/time, so the arrest went down 'without incident'...not the initial robbery.

  3. Just expressing my opinion based on other articles. The fire department fought layoffs, closing a station, shutting down a truck, didn't want new insurance, and wouldn't take smaller raises in the last contract. But they expect the mayor to give them what they want. And no, I am not an administrator or a friend of the mayors.

  4. You know what difference it work make...they would be more willing to negotiate instead of being big crybabies, worried about their big houses, fancy cars. While the majority of them do not live in Hammond, there are some that still do! And they are excellent firefighters...how ignorant of you to assume they are not! Everyone is so quick to blame the mayor, but the firefighters cry at every thing that doesn't go their way, even going so far as to use scare tactics on the citizens by telling them how unsafe they will be. Do you really think that their families are safer living somewhere without full time, paid, union firefighters?! Don't assume that just because they are firemen that they are right. Sure they deserve everything they can get and more for what they do...but times are tough and negotiating means compromise!

  5. Seriously "Tom"?! If Hammond is such a ghetto and you hate the mayor so much they why do you spend so much time commenting on Hammond? I'm assuming you do not live here since it is so beneath your standards! And obviously you have nothing better to do than be a sad, negative, judgemental person. You are certainly living up to your McPutz name!

  6. I certainly hope you do not live in Hammond, I would not want you to be my neighbor! Funny how you know what people look like when they are "released from prison that day"?! That's like me judging you because your name is Juanita! I have lived in "that area" for 20 yrs and shop at Carson's, Walmart, Home Depot, Menards...without any problems.

  7. Thank you to MARIA BECERRA who worked so hard as executive director and was the reason that Hammond received the funds to make this happen!! But after over 20 years of excellent service to the city, politics got in the way and she was replaced...sad days when honest, hardworking people do not get the credit they deserve!
