  1. I'm betting that most of the people commenting here have probably never even been to Miller Beach, or if they have, they probably haven't been back in years, perhaps not since they or their parents fled from the city in the 1970's.....The above comments are just the same old racist, ignorant comments that unfortunately the Region is known for... People, its 2013 not 1968 and its time that Northwest Indiana got over this garbage....The article above was about a popular (and widely acclaimed) local restaurant reopening... BUT some people just saw the word "Gary" and instantly thought "It must be scarey, dangerous and ghetto, and then made comments about bullet-proof glass and food stamps....its gotta scarey right? because its in Gary and everybody knows there's Black people there!!!!! These haters don't know anything about Gary other than these tired old stereotypes and they dont know anything at all about Miller Beach other than the paper said its in Gary....Well NEWSFLASH PEOPLE.....Miller Beach is not a ghetto it is a lakefront, beach community surrounded by the Indiana Dunes National Park. Unlike the rest of NWI, Miller Beach is extremely diverse with White people and Black, people, rich people and poor people, Jews, Gentiles and others all living in relative close proximity. Are you aware that Miller has million dollar homes along the beach, amazing modern architecture, and many wealthy and upper middle class residents? Unlike the suburban vinyl sided subdivisions in south Lake County, Miller is a REAL community where people actually know and usually even LIKE their neighbors....Miller is a wonderful community now and its getting better every year...Miller Beach has an Arts District, a Farmers Market, Hiking Trails, a Nature Center and miles of white sand beaches...Perhaps Mantis and Trap Jaw should visit a place before they judge it.... Come on guys! its not scarey, I'll give you a guided tour.... Every year people from all over Chicagoland come to our art openings on Lake Street, they swarm our beaches, they climb our dunes, they hike through our woods and thousands visit our air show....Its also interesting to note that rather than being afraid to come here, every year, more and more upwardly mobile college educated white people choose to buy vacation homes here and many move to Miller full time because they are smart enough to ignore the misleading Gary stigma and rhetoric and see Miller Beach for what it is, a beautiful lakefront community with a sleepy beach-town feel...a diamond in the rough.
