  4. I don't think a "public figure" can sue you simply for spreading a rumor. Actual malice would mean that you know it is untrue. Simply spreading a rumor is not knowing falsity. NY Times Versus Sullivan. IDK, but defamation is hard to prove I think

  5. Thanks, I was curious about this type of stuff. From what I understand, the attorney general oversees these nonprofits and he generally doesn't scrutinize them too closely unless the media draw attention to them. Also, charity differs from philanthropy in the eyes of the law because the former a must be public. Is this accurate? This is what I read in a law book, but it was about charitable trusts. I used to work for one and later found out that they are being accused by an AG in a different state for fraud and for violating antitrust statutes, but the place is none of the ones you listed.

  7. it's only libel/slander if the person saying it knows it's untrue or recklessly disregards the truth. And it's more a tort than a crime
