There are MANY legal American citizens that work FULL time jobs that earn so little that they qualify for food stamps. Since most of the good jobs have gone to other countries and many of the employers that are left are looking only at profit, they are further reducing workers' hours so they don't need to provide insurance, let alone let them earn enough to survive on. These people also need food stamps, since their hours have been cut that they can't afford anything. Don't be so quick to judge - any of us can soon be in the same state as these people going to soup kitchens. I feel extremely lucky to have a good job working for people who care about their employees. That doesn't stop me from seeing, everyday in Chicago, more and more people on the street looking for help. We must feel for our fellow humans, not condemn them.

What would the food stamp program have to do with utility bills? You expect Obama to undue what the Republicans were expert at and undoing the damage in such a short time? If I recall, there was a surplus in the Clinton administration, then what happened?
Bush went through that like a wildfire and started us in this mess.
