Maybe it's news because, although this type of thing happens all year long, "Tis the Season" for wanting what you can't afford and/or can't have is upon us, and they're using this story as a warning that these stores are always watching for shoplifters. You know, some people forget they're being watched and become brazen thieves unless they're reminded that people actually work to stop people like them.
