- Ok Tom, the next time someone is breaking into your house or robbing you blind, call the Fire Department.

- Great to see a road, which isn't even the responsibility of the town of Merrillville is higher on Hardaway's agenda than a pay raise for the Officers or hiring more of them. Right now, the firefighters are making about 6,500 more than a first class patrolman, and the department is drastically understaffed. But let's fix the roads in your ward first.

- It is my belief that you can always replace personnel, but you cannot replace honor. The type of leadership and results Jeff Snemis provided for the Town of Merrillville for over 20 years is something that cannot be easily replaced. Jeff Snemis is a man of honor who has intelligence and great leadership abilities. He is fair to everyone and does whatever he can for his men. These are the reasons why we will miss him at the P.D. There are few people qualified enough to pick up when Snemis leaves, however we are not trading down or settling for someone inferior. Bob Wiley has more integrity and guts than most, and happens to be just the right mixture of intelligence and reality that this department needs. You will be missed Jeff, and best wishes in your endeavors. We are in good hands at Merrillville P.D. with Bob Wiley: integritate, honor, sapientia

- Funding is cut from the Police Department on a weekly basis. The P.D. just gave another 150k to the town. The P.D. returns more money to the town every year than ANY OTHER department. How can you continue to cut the funding and still provide adequate protection? The revolving door isn't slowing down. There is a large gap in personnel, with the largest numbers being those who have 10 or more years or 5 and less years. There are very few seasoned officers who can train the new recruits that aren't Cpl., Sgt. or admin. Sooner or later, you will have a department of rookies, because officers realize that Merrillville is a stepping stone for their career in law enforcement.
