- The Republican-controlled chamber voted 36-12 to set Griffith free, every Democrat except state Sen. Frank Mrvan, D-Hammond, voting no.. There it is folks. The Democrats want to keep Griffith homeowners pouring money into Mary Elgin's welfare machine. Not too many people in Gary vote Republican.
