  1. For the students and teachers who work hard and excel, their efforts should be rewarded! If that means additional state funding of a mere 1% as a "reward" then by all means do it! Why continue to reward mediocrity and punish those who do well??? Things will get worse for the better school districts if yet more money is taken away from them.

  3. Gary schools get almost twice the amount of funding per student compared to Munster. How is this fair to Munster and other districts who stretch every dollar as far as they can, yet they still manage to achieve outstanding results with less money? Gary and all the other under achieving districts have squandered taxpayer money for far too long with little or nothing to show for it except overpaid teachers, administrators, poorly maintained school buildings, and students who cannot perform to minimum state standards. Yet James thinks we should throw MORE money at Gary? This is typical of the liberal mantra...punish excellence and reward poor behavior.

  4. Why is the young "lady" who originally sent the pictures not being held accountable for her role in this? Afterall, she is the one who took the picture and then sent it to her boyfriend. Should she not be charged with distributing pornographic material?

  5. I attended the meeting Monday night. Mr. Sopko and the School Board did a great job of avoiding any direct confrontation with the audience by using the standard "divide and conquer" technique. Once the presentation was complete in the auditorium, we were told to proceed to the cafeteria to meet with teachers and administrators in small groups for further questions and discussion. Great way to intimidate parents! Having us sit down with the same people who not only teach our children, but also don't want their jobs eliminated or additional cuts to the budget. This is not the best way to encourage a frank and open dialogue. The School Board and Mr. Sopko should have stood on that stage in order for ALL of our "elected officials" to field questions from the audience. Instead, they weaseled their way out of any potential conflict or questions that would make them squirm! I guess they learned their lesson from the great Computer fiasco! It was a waste of time for all involved. Also, our local state representatives should have been there. This issue has been over five years in the making and Reardon and Mrvan have done nothing!

  6. The Munster School Board released a statement this past July that the tax referendum would not be on the November 2012 ballot. Nothing was said at that time about how dire the financial circumstances were. How interesting that our arrogant and entitled School Board decided to wait until AFTER the 2012 election (in which three incumbents were re-elected), to bring the tax referendum up for a vote! The next School Board election is 2014. At that time, one Board member who may, or may not run again, will have served over 22 years! It's time to vote these people out!!! They are totally out of touch with the citizens/taxpayers of Munster!

  7. These three incumbents have been in office far too long. The manner in which they handled the computer fiasco proves that they are out of touch with the parents and citizens of Munster. When people have been on the board for 12 to 18 + years, they get a sense of entitlement. To think Friend has served 12 years and this is the first time he faced opposition flies in the face of reason! What makes mymusings think that new board members would ruin what is already there? We need new people with fresh ideas and a fresh perspective. Besides, only one of the five board members has a child in the Munster schools. What motivates these incumbents to stick around year after year? What makes them think that they are the only ones qualified to sit on the board? There will be another election in two years for two seats. Perhaps by then, the voters will wake up and put some new people on the board!!!
