- Isn't it interesting that society (and I mean whites) love to celebrate black achievement when it's entertaining or convenient: Obama is the "first black" president (even though he's half white) and Tiger Woods is the "first black" champion golfer (even though he's half Asian).But give 1600 high achieving black students a shot at some scholarship money and that's unfair? We have a long way to go. (And this is for agent99 who called me "boy") I'm a white woman who's been married to a wonderful black man for 20 years. We have twin high-achieving black sons, both of whom are National Achievement Scholar semifinalists.

- OK folks...First there is the same program for white students...really for any student. It's called National Merit Scholars and there are 16,000 semifinalists in the country. The semifinalists were announced 2 weeks ago. The National Achievement Scholar program is part of that program and recognizes 1,600 black students (or about 10% which mirrors U.S. demographics.) So quit your beefin' if your white kid isn't one of the 16,000 instead of making racist remarks about the 1,600 high achieving black kids who deserve the recognition. And really, unless your great grandpa or great grandma was owned by another person in this country as little as 150 years ago, shut your mouth.
